What I Read In May

SHOP THE OUTFIT: Striped Linen Dress (fits true to size, has pockets)

Here are the books I read in May. For some reason, May felt busier than usual. Which is probably why the month flew by. So I didn’t read as much as I wanted. If you are looking for books that take you places, two of the three books do an incredible job. While I was reading them, I felt like I was able to see, feel, and hear these places and it sparked my interest to visit these places one day.

What I Read In May

What I Read In May

The Unlikely Adventures of the Shergill Sisters by Balli Kaur Jaswal

The Unlikely Adventures of The Shergill Sisters by Balli Kaur JaswalThree British born Punjabi Sisters (Rajni, Jezmeen, and Shirina) jet-set off to India. It was their mother’s last wish right before she passed away that all 3 of her daughters visit all the places she wanted to see in India. The 3 sisters rarely get along. They’re always bickering and through time they have also grown apart. However, they wanted to continue on with their mother’s wish. They go to India and nothing goes as planned. Of course, they continue to argue throughout the entire time. As they continue to explore India, they learn why their mother wanted to go back and unexpectedly made discoveries about one another, themselves, and their mother. Most importantly, they learned why their mother never made it back to India.

If you are looking for a book to take you on a travel adventure, this book will take you to India. This is the first book we selected for my book club with my sister and cousin. While I was reading, I could vividly see, smell, and hear India and I have never been there. So that was a pleasant surprise! I really enjoyed that this book was relatable. It takes you through the various stages of a sister’s relationship. I have a sister and totally understand the dynamic between the Shergill sisters and what it is like to have immigrant parents. Overall, I thought the book was beautifully written and in the end it was a heartwarming ending. This was just the book I needed to feel good!

Mrs. Everything By Jennifer Weiner

Mrs. Everything by Jennifer WeinerJo and Bethie Kaufman are sisters that grew up in  1950’s Detroit in a perfect Dick & Jane house. They were born into a world full of promise. Both sisters were completely different. Jo, the older sister, is a tomboy, book nerd, aspires to be a writer, and has a passion for the world to be fair. Bethie, the younger sister, is feminine, popular, a good girl, and dreams of a traditional lifestyle. Unfortunately, the world did not turn out how they hoped it to be. Both sisters experienced different traumas and tragedies. They lived through Woodstock, Vietnam War, and race and gender inequality. They both turned out to be completely different women. Throughout all these tragedies, they wonder if they can truly find happiness.

Wow, I had no idea that this book would take me through some of the major things that happened in history. Starting in the 1950s. I really liked that it talked about controversy that happened then and how it shaped the world and what it is now. I’ll admit that in the beginning certain parts felt a little lengthy. However, as I kept reading and especially towards the end, I could not put the book down. I really wanted to know how these sisters’ lives turned out. Because along the way, they both really got themselves into a lot of trouble and I just wanted the best for them.

Next Year In Havana By Chanel Cleeton

Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton Book ReviewMeet Elisa Perez. This is in Havana 1958 and she is part of Cuba’s high society and is sheltered from Cuba’s political volatility. That all changed when she had an affair with a passionate revolutionary. Meet Marisol Ferrera. This is in Miami 2017. She grew up hearing romantic stories of Cuba from her grandmother Elisa. Her grandmother was exiled from Cuba when Castro took over. Elisa’s last wish was to have Marisol spread her ashes in Cuba. When Marisol arrived in Cuba, she felt at home – finally connected to her Cuban roots. However, the longer she stayed, she started to understand the suffering the Cubans faced daily with the regime and the turmoil they endure. As Marisol figures out where to spread her grandmother’s ashes, she unveils more about her family and their secrets. She also realizes that she might be in danger and no one in Cuba is safe.

This book belongs in the historical fiction category and I could not put this book down! First of all, this book took me to Cuba. I could vividly see the streets of Old Havana and the Malecon. I always knew that the relationship between Cuba and the United States was shaky but I never fully understood until this book. Honestly, after every chapter I kept researching about the Cuban regime. We hear things about Cuba, but I never fully understood. I love that the storyline combined history, travel, family, and a good love story. The love story helps paint a picture of the struggles and decisions Cubans face daily.

22 Black-Owned Businesses To Support Now

I recently discovered a lot of incredible black-owned businesses to support now. There’s so many good ones out there! If I’m going to shop, might as well support a black-owned business. To my surprise, they’re businesses I already loved and have supported and there’s some that are new to me and totally fit my style. As I mentioned before when I shared my thoughts, this experience has been eye-opening even though I’m also a minority. The thing is, a lot of minorities experience racism and the black lives matter movement has gotten a lot of people to realize that racism is something minorities experience in their daily lives. And we need to put an end to this.

If you missed my previous posts, I also share organizations to support and books written by black authors. I’ve heard amazing feedback on Instagram about my post on 12 books by black authors.

22 Black-Owned Businesses To Support

Most of these businesses are centered around fashion. However, there are a few really good home decor businesses too. I have already made some purchases! I can’t wait for them to arrive!

1 Briogeo

This is the first safe beauty hair product brand I’ve ever tried. Aside from Virtue Labs, I’m also a fan of Briogeo. However, I’ve only tried their leave-in conditioning spray and heat protectant creme, but they’re amazing! They’re pretty much available in any major retailer.

I’ve loved Lemlem’s clothes for a long time. I initally discovered them through Shopbop. Their swimsuit collection and dresses are the cutest!

5 AAKS

AAKS Raffia bags are GORGEOUS!! I’m having a hard time picking which ones I love and want to buy!

Clare Paint

How To Wear Puff Sleeves Multiple Ways

Puff Sleeves For Spring & Summer

The latest fashion trend is the puff sleeve trend and you know what? I love wearing anything with puffy sleeves. If you are not familiar with this trend, they are fashion pieces with big sleeves and usually are puffy at the shoulder and go all the way down the sleeves. Some have a more subtle puffy sleeve and some are exaggerated (those are typically more statement tops). In fact, the moment I see puff sleeve shirts or puff sleeve dresses, I immediately gravitate towards them! They can easily make your outfit look so chic and put together. They are especially perfect for Spring and Summer season.

In the Spring and Summer months, there are so many cute dresses and tops with puffy sleeves. Although there are a few puff sleeve sweaters, they are more prominent during the warmer seasons. In fact, they can come in solid colors, floral prints, polka dot prints, etc.

How To Wear Puff Sleeves Multiple Ways

I’m sharing several different outfits wearing the puff sleeve trend. But most of these outfits consist of me wearing the same floral puff sleeve top. Love this floral puff sleeve top and most definitely one of my favorite tops to wear during the Spring. I’m not 100% sure if it is still available, but in case it is not, below are some of my favorite floral puff sleeve tops. But if my top is sold out by the time you are reading this, the Rolla Floral Blouse and Meadows Carnation Top are the closest options to mine.

Best Bottoms To Pair With Puff Sleeves

My biggest tip when it comes to choosing bottoms with your puff sleeve shirt is to keep your bottoms very simple. Since wearing any puff sleeve piece is already a statement in itself, going simple is best. So here are my recommended bottoms to wear.

  • Midi Skirt / Pleated Skirt – This is if you want to create an ultra feminine look. If your top has prints, I suggest wearing a solid color skirt. In addition, same idea applies if your top is a solid color. So if your top is a solid color, choose a printed skirt. But if you want a good mixture of edgy and feminine, I’m obsessing over this cream colored faux leather pleated skirt. So chic!
  • Skinny Jeans / Skinny Fit Pants – These type of bottoms are great when your top has extremely big sleeves. In fact, it keeps the entire outfit look more balanced.
  • Wide-Leg Pants – As long as your top is not baggy, any puffy shirt looks incredible with wide-leg pants and it makes you look so fashion forward.
  • Denim – You can’t go wrong pairing your top with jeans. It gives it a dressy casual look.

What are you thoughts on puff sleeves?

Essential Garden Tools From Amazon

Before I begin talking about gardening tools, I will admit it feels a bit weird to get back to ‘normal schedule’ after last week. However, I’m still learning, listening, and educating. I still think it is important we continue to have discussions about racism and I do have a couple more posts lined up to talk about it.

One of the hobbies that I never thought I would ever pick up from my parents is gardening. Growing up, gardening was a big part of my life because my parents LOVED it. I told my parents I would never ever get into it. And guess who’s laughing now? My parents. All our family & friends know my parents are big time gardeners. Looking back, I am amazed with our garden growing up. Living in the city, you’d never think having a full, luscious garden was possible. Oh but it is, according to my parents. They would never live in a home unless there was a good sized backyard. Big selling point for them is a place to garden.

We always had the prettiest flowers. Whatever flower you can think of that is livable in Chicago’s hardy zone, we had it. I remember when I was in grade school, in the morning right before I left for school, I would ask my mom to pick some flowers for me. I’d create a bouquet for my teachers. Haha looking back, I’m such a teacher’s pet!

Essential Garden Tools From Amazon

In addition to flowers, my parents were really into growing vegetables. Almost every vegetable I ate as a kid was from our garden. We had the true farm to table experience haha. But of course, we would always have way too much produce. So we always had family and friends just come over and pick their veggies. My parents love gardening so much that they would start in February with the seedlings. My dad would have a makeshift indoor greenhouse in our basement. Then when it came to Springtime, my parents would plant them in the ground.

Even though I don’t have a yard like my parents, Tre & I still love to create our own urban garden on our balcony. Everything is in a pot. However, the type of garden tool you need is the same as if we had a yard. Tre & I are more into flowers. I’m such a big fan of always having fresh cut flowers in the house. So it makes sense that the majority of our garden is cut flowers. We have dahlias, sunny knockout roses, marigolds, hydrangeas, and daylillies.

You don’t need that many garden tools, especially if you are starting out (or have a small outdoor space). However, there are a few garden tools that are essential. For instance, you will need a shovel, garden shears, and gloves. If you want to get started on gardening now, I thought I’d share some essential garden tools from Amazon. However, I’m a sucker for anything cute (and functional of course). Because when something is cute and storage is limited, it all works in the space haha. So here are the cute essential garden tools! Most of these tools are part of Amazon Prime and reasonably priced.

1 3-Piece Floral Garden Tools

This is the first of several 3-piece garden tool sets I will showcase. These 3 tools – especially the shovel and garden shears are a must! They’re heavy duty and made of aluminum with no slip grip. These tools are perfect for digging, weeding, loosening soil, aerating, and transplanting.

2 3-Piece Heavy Duty Garden Tool Set

Here is another heavy duty garden tool set. The functions are the same as noted above (Item 1). This means it’s made to last and it also has a floral print.

3 16-Piece Mini Garden Tool Kit

This garden tool kit has more than what you need and it is great for dealing with mini plants. I especially love the size of the tools because they work great if your pot and plant is small. If you are into succulents, this is perfect for you. However, I like to use these garden tools for our window box planters. I’m able to get into the small crevices.

4 3-Piece Short Handle Tool Set

This set is very similar to the other 3-piece garden tool sets. The only difference is that instead of the floral print going all the way down the handle, the handles are a solid color.

5 Flora Guard Garden Tools

Again, another set very similar to the other garden tool sets. This time it is in a purple floral print. However, it does come in multiple colors. If you don’t like the color purple, they also have this set in a red floral print.

6 12-Piece Garden Tools Set With Garden Kneelers Work Cloth

This 12-piece garden tool set is similar to the above 16-piece set. However, it is obviously not as many tools. All the tools are made for mini plants and gardens. What I love about this set is that it comes with a waterproof cloth. I like to use the cloth when we are changing pots in our balcony. That way I don’t have to worry about the soil dirtying up our balcony and potentially getting through the baseboards and landing on my neighbor’s balcony. This work cloth is also great if you are potting indoors. Less mess!

7 Ruibo Leather Rose Gardening Gloves

I love that these gardening gloves are longer and go up the arms. This is especially great if you are working with shrubs or bushes. For me, I love to wear these types of gloves when dealing with roses. When I am pruning our roses, my arm can easily get scratched by the thorns. So these gloves protect me.

8 Cotton Gardening Potting Gloves

These gloves are perfect for potting herbs and small plants. I think these have my favorite prints on them. Love the botanical prints! They’re one size fits all so that can be a pro or a con.

9 Soft Jersey Garden Gloves

These are made with jersey cotton material and it comes in a pack of 3. This set of gloves is great if you are just starting out or planning on having a small garden. For instance, if you plan on potting a few plants on your balcony.

10 6-Pair Garden Gloves

This set has 6 pairs of garden gloves. According to the description, they’re great for indoor and outdoor planting. The material seems to be similar as the gloves noted above (Item 9). As for sizing, they’re unisex fit so they’re made for men or women.

11 Polyester Performance Garden Gloves

These garden gloves are a matching set with the 3-pc short hand tool set (See Item 4). The fit says one size fits most.

12 Pink Floral Garden Hand Shears

Love the floral print of these garden shears. My current garden shears look very similar to this one! Even if you are not gardening, I highly recommend garden shears if you plan on having fresh cut flowers in your home. They make a cleaner cut when you have to cut the stems. A clean cut is so important when taking care of flowers. Also if you do cut the stems of a flower, always cut at an angle. It helps them absorb the water better.

13 Gold Plated Garden Scissors

I own these type of garden scissors, but mine are not as pretty haha. Mine do not have the gold plated handle. They’re super sharp and multipurpose. They can do a clean cut when cutting, pruning, or deadheading plants. But they are also useful for crafting as well.

14 Garden Bypass Shears

Another pretty floral garden shears!

15 Floral Shears

These floral shears are similar to the gold plated scissors (Item 13), except the ends are rounded not pointy and obviously the handle is pink not gold plated. But don’t be fooled by the rounded ends because they’re just as sharp!

16 Rose Gold Garden Shears

This is for people who love anything rose gold. I mean who doesn’t love rose gold, right?! It has an ergonomic handle if ergonomics is a feature you are looking for.

As you can see I just listed the 16 essential garden tools from Amazon that I think look aesthetically cute and functional. However, I personally think all you really need is a shovel, garden shears, and garden gloves!

Have you been into gardening? If so, what have you planted?

As someone who loves to read, I thought I’d highlight 12 books by black authors. I’ve read some of these and the rest are currently on my to be read list. Black-Owned Bookstores

If you love to read and if any of these bookstores are close to you definitely check them out! It’s a great way to support local black business. I had no idea Semicolon in Chicago existed and it’s not too far from me. So I will check them out!

My Thoughts & Organizations To Support Black Community

So before we begin, I’m just letting you know this post is just spilling my thoughts. I don’t have solutions. I’m not those bloggers that will teach you how to be an ally because I’m still continuing to learn. It may seem like I’m rambling, but there’s so much running through my head. If I’m being honest, I’m not quite sure if I’m conveying my thoughts and feelings accurately. So if anything I mentioned has been taken the wrong way, I apologize and please let me know what I need to change and teach me.

I can’t just have a new post and talk about fashion, beauty, etc without addressing the recent events and my own thoughts. These past couple weeks have been heavy on me and I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting. I was apalled and angry with the death of Ahmed Aubrey. Who in their right mind thinks it is okay to shoot a black man for no reason? And then the news shared about the death of Breonna Taylor. Again, my mind was like what? You shot the wrong person, and what, 8 times? How is this right? And then the video of George Floyd was released and I was disgusted. How can a human being do such harm to another human being? How can someone justify these deaths?

It hurts because these people did not deserve it.

And it is not fair at all because no one should ever suffer and fear for their lives because they’re black or brown. I’m considered a minority and people of color (POC), and I have my own experience of racism and injustice. But I also know I can’t compare with what black people go through and thus I can only empathize to a certain degree.

One thing I feel certain about is that racism still exists.

And I question when racism will ever disappear. It’s unfortunate that these recent deaths and brutality is what it takes to finally get people to realize racism is real. Part of me is thinking to myself, well good people are getting it. And part of me is like this is sad that people dying is the way to get the world to wake up. Like I said, my thoughts are everywhere and I don’t have the solution.

I also know I have to be better as well. I’m not perfect, I have flaws, and I need to educate myself. Just because I know what it’s like for someone to judge me by the color of my skin does not mean I know how to be better than everyone else. There’s room to learn.

I’m part of an organization for Asian Americans and someone brought up a really good point. As Asians, more than ever we should support our black friends and black community.  We know what it’s like to be judged  and so we should be allies for the black community. The black community has shown support for the Asian community. And more than ever, I need to do a better job showing my support.

One thing I know for sure and feel strongly about is that it 100% starts in your home.

I have to give praise to my parents for talking about race with me at young age. We talked about ethnicity and they showed me and pointed out different ethnicities to me.

And I’m so grateful to have went to a diverse school when I lived in the city before my parents moved us to the suburbs. My all time favorite teacher was Mrs. Patrick. I was 4 years old and she taught me about Martin Luther King Jr. Mrs. Patrick is a black woman and felt very passionate about equal rights for black people. Until this day I still remember the song she taught us about Martin Luther King Jr. “Martin Luther King needs pe-eace. Martin Luther King needs f-r-ee-dom” Haha that’s a small tidbit of it but it really helped! So I totally agree that racism should be talked about in school at an early age. And I hope moving forward many young kids have this experience.

There are so many things out there now on how to help. I totally agree that we all should do more than just posting on social media. We can donate, support local black business, and let us be part of the solution so that there is change.

I also want to make it clear that I don’t think all cops are bad, not all white people are racists. I truly think ignorance comes in all colors.

Organizations To Support & Donate

Today, I’m going to share a few organizations to donate to. However, feel free to donate to any organization you feel strongly about. In my next few blog posts, I will share fashion brands to support that are owned by black men and women and books written by black men and/or women.

Thanks to my husband, family, and friends for having an open dialogue with me about this matter. And special thanks to my black friends and followers for educating me on this matter.

How To Make Whipped Coffee – Dalgona Coffee

What is Dalgona Coffee?

Have you heard of Dalgona coffee? It’s the whipped coffee that has been trending on social media. I made it a couple weeks ago, and some of you were asking how to make it. I know I already shared the recipe on Instagram, but I thought it would be fun to share again. That way you can always come back here in case you forget the recipe. Making Dalgona coffee is so easy! And it is a great way to elevate your coffee experience while at home! This coffee drink has now become known as the ‘quarantine drink’ ever since it went viral on Tik Tok so people kept calling it the Tik Tok drink.

If you are curious about the history of Dalgona coffee, it actually started in an eatery in Macau. After a South Korean actor ordered this whipped coffee, he created it and added Dalgona. In fact, Dalgona is a Korean honeycomb toffee. Hence, how it got the name Dalgona coffee.

Dalgona Coffee Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 Tablespoon Instant Coffee
  • 2 Tablespoon Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoon Warm Water
  • Milk
  • Ice

DIRECTIONS

Dalgona Coffee Recipe Dalgona Coffee Recipe

  1. Whisk together the instant coffee, sugar, and warm water. Then you can hand whisk it or use an electric hand mixer. I used an electric hand mixer and it made it so much easier.
  2. Continue to whisk until the coffee mixture has a lighter brown color and creates stiff peaks. So this takes about 6 minutes.
  3. Grab a tall glass and add ice and milk of your choice. You can seriously use any milk that you prefer to drink. I used oat milk, but it works with whole milk, almond milk, skim milk, etc.
  4. Top it off with the whipped coffee.

Optional: You can definitely add chocolate syrup to this! Prior to adding the milk to the glass, drizzle chocolate syrup. Then add the milk and whipped coffee and then top it off with chocolate syrup again.

Equipment To Make The Whipped Coffee

Electric Mixer

While you can use a whisk, I highly recommend using an electric mixer. You’ll be whisking for 5-6 minutes, and trust me, it gets tiring very quickly. So below are affordable options.

I personally think electric mixers are a kitchen tool must! Especially, if you don’t have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer. The portable electric mixer works as a great alternative!

Instant Coffee

You can use the instant coffee of your choice. But if you don’t frequently buy instant coffee, here are some options. A lot of coffee connoisseurs claim that Waka Coffee is the best instant coffee out there.

Have you tried Dalgona coffee?

Unfortunately, our condo doesn’t have the space or the chairs currently don’t work with the space because of the layout. I also recently learned that Serena & Lily carries loungewear! As you all may know, the CDC highly encourages you to wear a face mask when going outside or when social distancing may be difficult. An example of when social distancing is difficult is when going to the grocery store. Depending on where you are and what you need to get, there may be people who are in close proximity (especially when walking down the aisles). In Chicago, our Mayor and Governor also recommended to wear a non-medical cloth face mask. I believe other major cities such as Los Angeles and New York City have the same mandate.

The reason why wearing a face mask is important is because it will help prevent the spread of infection and prevent from contracting any airborne infectious disease. For instance, when someone coughs or sneezes (and sometimes talks), the germs get released into the air and infect anyone nearby. Since there are still so many things unknown about the coronavirus disease it is best to be cautious and wear a cloth face mask.

However, in order for this to be effective, everyone should be wearing it. Have you heard of the urine test? It is a great example of how wearing the mask works. Below is an image explaining the urine test.

Importance Of Wearing A Face Mask - Urine Test.

Importance Of Wearing A Face Mask (Image Source)

Makes total sense right?!

Since it is required to wear a cloth face mask in public under the “new normal”, I figured I might as well wear cute and stylish masks. Am I right? So I’m doing a round up of cloth face masks that are both functional and stylish.

12 Cloth Face masks That Are Stylish 12 Cloth Face masks That Are Stylish

12 Cloth Face Masks That Are Stylish

All the face masks and face coverings I am sharing below are non-medical masks. Therefore, these cloth face masks are not a direct substitute to the N95 surgical masks. Please do keep in mind that it is very important to use non-medical face masks so that essential workers have enough medical face masks to use. Essential workers are most likely exposed to more people which can increase their chance of infection.

All the masks that I independently selected below are a good mixture of well-known brands and small businesses. Keep in mind that every mask purchase is final sale.

12 Cloth Face masks That Are Stylish.

1 Floral, Gingham, Stripes, or Solid Color Face Masks

These fabric face masks are by the seller MorningLightApparel on Etsy. My selection is caramel colored theme and you can pick from different prints and patterns or a solid color. Each fabric mask is a 2 layer cotton mask and does not have a pocket for a filter. They’re washable and each cost $9. This seller also has other cute face mask designs.

2 Floral Fabric Face Mask

This is another design by MorningLightApparel. I didn’t even realize I picked them twice. Like I said they’re super cute and this set of masks focuses on floral prints. It has the same specs as above – 2 layer cotton mask and no pocket for filter. Each mask is $9.

3 Protective Adult & Child Mask

This is another seller found on Etsy called Sparrow and Lily. You can select an adult fabric mask or a child fabric mask. Each mask is only $5.15 and they have a double layer and no pockets for filter.

4 Rifle Paper Co Face Mask

If you love the brand Rifle Paper Co, then you’ll love these face masks. This seller, JujuandNana, used Rifle Paper Co fabrics to make the masks. I have an obsession with Rifle Paper Co so I seriously want every mask. This seller’s masks are double layered with pockets for filters. Each mask is $20.

5 Amadi Plaid Reusable Loop Face Mask

I think these plaid prints are so cute and they’re from Anthropologie. These particular masks are made with soft cotton fabric and have a pocket for a filter. These masks feature a cushioned nose wire for a more custom fit. These are $14 each. Anthropologie has so many cute face masks and their inventory changes every day.

As I mentioned last month, Anthroplogie has been giving back to the community since the pandemic started. They’ve donated to local Feed America food banks and donated protective masks to healthcare workers.

Where to buy cute face masks

6 Gingham Face Mask

This mask is from a small business called Sunday Ritual and the Navy Gingham (see their Etsy store here)is the one I’m wearing. I love their collection of masks. They’re all cute and have a variety to pick from (including kids masks too). My gingham mask is pleated and double lined. Each costs $10.95.

7 Premium Cotton Face Mask

This seller from Etsy, PopFizzCheers, has so many cute face masks. They are all mostly floral print with a vintage feel to it. Each mask is $25. Their masks are all pleated, double layer.

8 Pretty Plum Sugar Face Mask

These masks come in a set of 2. A set is $20. This face covering has a nose contour shape and elastic ear hoops. Each mask includes a cotton lining and room for a filter insert. Pretty Plum Sugar has been using leftover fabrics. Therefore, the color and prints of the masks are constantly changing.

Button Fly Straight Jeans

9 Michael Stars Pleated Face Mask

Michael Stars face masks also come in a set of 2. The set is $20. I own the colorful striped one. These are sustainable face coverings and the material is very soft. It is the material that they use on their clothes. If you are new to Michael Stars, they are a LA Based clothing company known for having the softest fabric on their pieces. Super comfortable.

As a bigger fashion brand, in addition to selling non-medical masks to the public, they are donating masks to support healthcare facilities across the U.S. Each mask purchase will help them contribute to the community! They’re also supporting those who are greatly impacted by COVID-19. They are working with grassroots organizations to provide direct relief efforts to the most vulnerable with the One For All campaign.

10 Tie-Dye Mask

This tie-dye masks feature two layers of woven fabric and a lightweight nose wire to mold around the nose. Each mask is $9. This is from the seller Essence of Cuteness. They also have several other tie-dye colored masks. All the masks have the same style just different colors.

11 Protective Face Covering With Filter

These are only $2.78. However, according the seller, the patterns will be based on inventory. These masks come with adjustable nose wires and filter and are made with cotton soft fabric. The filter lasts for about 2-3 days. The mask is reusable and washable, but the filter is not.

12 Blue Floral Face Mask

How pretty is this mask?! This mask also has a kid mask option too. They’re $12 each. It’s a fabric face mask with  removable nose wire. They’re made with cotton with a contour shape and they’re pre-shunk. This seller on Etsy, MorganKBoutique, has other reusable masks that are super cute too. The other masks are slightly different, they don’t have the contour shape. They’re pleated with filter pockets.

More Face Masks & Thoughts

Chic Face Masks Chic Face Masks

In addition to the above list, I also want to recognize other favorite fashion brands that have been giving back. I didn’t list them earlier because their masks sold out. I mentioned them last month as companies giving during coronavirus and on Instagram and it wouldn’t be fair to not add them to this list. These brands, J.Crew, Madewell, Alice & Olivia, and Old Navy, have been creating masks for the public and donating masks to essential workers as well. Unfortunately, due to their popularity, their non-medical masks sold out. Good news is that some of them are accepting pre-orders. So as soon as they are available, you are the first to know and have them.

Bucket Straw Bag

I really love that a lot of these fashion brands have been recycling and utilizing extra and leftover fabrics. Not only is it sustainable but it is making good use of something that was going to be wasted and thrown away.

I’m curious to know, are you all required to wear face masks when you are out in public? I have friends who live in other states and they tell me they don’t wear a mask. So it is very interesting to see how different cities and states are handling this situation. In my opinion, wearing a mask is not only helping yourself, but is being respectful to others. If you are not into wearing a mask, make sure you are social distancing but when you come across someone in close proximity, just put your mask on temporarily!

Best Snacks To Order On Amazon

We all know how much I love to shop on Amazon. It’s too addicting and since the pandemic started, Amazon has been one of our go-to online retailers. Which I’m sure most of you have too. It’s hard not to shop there because they have almost everything you need from random household stuff, cute clothes (like these loungewear), snacks & groceries. And yes, I’m one of those who has been snacking nonstop. I can’t help it! I never was a snacker until recently haha. So I thought I’d share what I consider the best snacks to order on Amazon.

Best Snacks To Order On Amazon

Alright who’s ready to snack? This list is a good mix of healthy and not-so-healthy snacks. In true honesty, I rarely check if a snack is healthy. But I was happy and pleased to find out that some of my go-to snacks happened to be on the healthier side. YESSSS!  Most of the snacks listed are part of Amazon Prime, so if you are an Amazon Prime member you are in luck! I’ll try to note that with each snack description and review.

However, some of these snacks are part of Amazon’s grocery delivery. They are either labeled as FRESH or WHOLE FOODS. This typically means that Amazon will deliver the food to you as groceries. Therefore, if you do see those labels, I highly recommend just placing your groceries with it. I’ve done it a few times and it is super simple and easy and there is not an extra charge for your groceries to be delivered.

Alright, here is the list of snacks that I independently selected and think you all should buy on Amazon.

Best Snacks To Order On Amazon

1. Tiny But Mighty Heirloom Popcorn

I swear this is the BEST popcorn ever. I tried it out a couple years ago because the cheaper ones were sold out and I was really craving popcorn haha. But after that day, I was HOOKED. They are so so good! They claim that the kernels will never get stuck in between your teeth and it is so true! So if you are looking for some healthy snacks (like no added sugars), add this to the cart and you will not regret it. I bet you will be just as hooked as I am. They also have a bag of popped popcorn if that’s something you prefer to snack on. Available for Amazon Prime.

2. Kind Bars – Variety Pack, Mini Size

My go to granola bars are kind bars. And I love this variety pack because I don’t have to commit to choosing one flavor haha. I love switching up my granola bar flavors. What’s great about this pack is that these bars are mini size. I personally think anything mini size just tastes so much better! Plus, they’re a good source of protein and fiber and great if you are concerned about blood sugar (have low glycemic index). Available for Amazon Prime.

3. Late July Chips

Remember when I talked about these chips last month on a sponsored Instagram post? You have no idea how excited I was when Late July wanted to work with me. If there is a potato chip brand to work with, this is the one!! I’ve been eating their chips for awhile now. They’re so tasty! I love the sea salt multigrain if I’m looking for simple flavored chips or using for dips. But the jalapeño lime is so good on its own. Late July Chips are on the healthier side. They’re also vegan, gluten free, and made in a facility that does not process peanuts. So if you have a peanut allergy (or know someone in your household who does) then this is a great option for you. Available for Amazon Prime.

4. Terra Chips

If you are looking for another healthy alternative to potato chips, I love these Terra chips. My favorite is the Mediterranean, but the sea salt one is really tasty too. These vegetable chips are made with yuca, parsnips, sweet potato, batata, taro, and beets-dipped vegtables. They’re especially good with hummus. The color of these chips themselves is a pretty presentation on the table. Available for Amazon Prime.

5. Combos – Variety Pack

When I was a little girl, this was always what I wanted to snack on. Whenever my dad went to a gas station, I almost always asked for Combos. They’re not good for you at all, but man aren’t they so tasty? During quarantine, Combos brought me back so much nostalgia. My go to flavor is the pepperoni and cheddar cheese. Available for Amazon Pantry.

6. Hi-Chews

Growing up, Hi-Chews was one of the candies my parents would always get for my sister and I. I know now these are more mainstream, but these candies have been around for awhile. They were primarily prominent in Asian food markets. I personally think Hi-Chews are way better than Starburst. Your taste buds will be screaming with real fruit flavors and it doesn’t leave my mouth feeling like it is coated in sugar. Available for Amazon Prime.

7. Fisher Tex Mex Trail Mix

I don’t always go for trail mix, but if I do I love this tex mex blend. It has a good spicy salty blend. I believe the spice blend is cajun. This trail mix has pepitas, peanuts, almonds, salsa corn sticks, sesame sticks, and chili bits. Available for Amazon Prime.

8. Flaming Hot Cheetos

So here is a not so healthy snack. Ever since I was little, these are my favorite type of chips. I can’t resist them! Seriously, once I open a bag, I almost always finish the bag. Which is not a good thing but oh so delicious! Sometimes I like to create my own mix. I mix a bag of flaming hot cheetos and the classic cheese-flavored cheetos. Available for Amazon Pantry.

9. Justin’s Organic Mini Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

If you have a sweet tooth then you will love these. I don’t have a strong sweet tooth (typically gravitate towards savory versus sweet) and I love these! They’re comparable to Reese’s peanut butter cups but better! The dark chocolate with their organic peanut butter is amazing. I know it sounds slightly pretentious but once you take a bite, you know they’re worth every penny. I rarely crave candy bars, but when I do I want these peanut butter cups! Justine’s nut butters have high protein and are made with simple ingredients. Sometimes they’re available for Amazon Prime (some days it is and some days it’s not).

Have you tried any of these snacks? Do you have a favorite snack to buy on Amazon? If you do, please leave them in the comments. I’m always open to trying new things!
