The past month or so, I’ve been more diligent with taking care of my hair. The main motivation has to do with the fact that I am experiencing a newish cancer treatment side effect. If you are new to understanding cancer treatments basically some side effects don’t happen immediately and may be delayed. Well hair loss is back. To clarify, it is more of an extreme hair thinning versus completely losing my hair (I lost all my hair from chemo). It took me by surprise, but my hair feels significantly thinner and I’ve always been known to have thick hair. So I’m at the point where I really need to protect my hair as much as possible.
I honestly never really cared much for hair products and rarely spend money on them. Occasionally I’ll get some of the well-known / higher end hair products hoping to see if I will truly notice a difference or understand why people love them. None of them stood out until I tried Virtue Labs hair products.
Virtue Labs Hair Products Review
Long story short, I’m a fan of their products. I never thought I’d love a hair brand so much. But as with anything, it’s not perfect so I’ll share some things I wish Virtue Labs can do better.
What Is Virtue Labs
It is a hair product brand that was founded 6 years ago. They wanted to revolutionize the hair industry by creating products that combine effective technology and science. Virtue Labs’ creative director, Adir Abergel, is a well known hair stylist and a good friend of Jennifer Garner. And you guessed it, Jennifer Garner is an avid user of their products (and swears by them too) and is currently the brand ambassador. A lot of well known celebrities are known to use their products: Reese Witherspoon, Anne Hathaway, just to name a few. Their hair products range from several different types of shampoo and conditioner to hair care for all different hair types to hair styling products.
What Makes Virtue Labs Hair Products Special
The biggest thing that makes Virtue Labs so different is that they figured out a new way to collect human keratin protein in its purest form. All their products have the ingredient Alpha Keratin 60ku®. This protein is what makes up most of your hair, skin, and nails and is identical to the keratin in your hair. The human hair has the ability to use Alpha Keratin 60ku® and recognize it as its own. It binds directly to damaged hair strand by strand and it smooths, resurfaces, and fills in cracks of damage.
In addition to Alpha Keratin 60ku®, their products contain baobab seed oil and hydrolyzed quinoa. These are powerful ingredients that are not only safe but are filled with many nutrients and vitamins.
Pros And Cons of Virtue Labs Hair Products
I’ve tried a decent amount of their hair products. I would say about 80% of them. So here are my pros and cons.
As you all know, I’ve made the switch to clean and safe beauty. So their cleaner ingredients are what sparked my interest. Virtue Labs is free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates, synthetic colors and dyes, gluten free, and cruelty free.
So what really got me to love this product is how effective it so. First of all, I struggled to find a safer ingredient shampoo and conditioner that I love. A lot out there don’t do a good job cleaning my hair. Theirs do!! My favorite is the Virtue Recovery Shampoo and Conditioner. It has helped rebuild my damaged hair from my hair thinning. But omg, all their hair treatment products are AMAZING!!
Salon Like Results
Because their products are so effective, your hair feels like you just left the hair salon. Especially after using the healing oil and split end serum. Both products really helped with repairing damage and leaving my hair looking shiny, healthy, smooth, and silky.
I can’t stand when my hair feels like it is packed with products. All their styling products feel so lightweight and they don’t have that grimy feeling to them. It’s like it’s my natural hair.
I know that packaging should be the least of my concerns. However, I lack storage in my home and an aesthetically pleasing package makes it tolerable to leave on the countertop.
I hate when hair products have a strong scent. The scent of their products is clean and light.
Less Is More
I love that you don’t need to use a lot of the product. All it takes is a quarter-sized amount and it gets the job done.
While the price is pretty comparable to the competitive high-end hair beauty brand, it is still a decent amount of money that has to be spent. The price is not outrageous, but they do add up quickly. Even their travel size products can be a bit pricey.
More Travel Size
In the past few months, I noticed Virtue Labs increased the number of travel size products. The majority of the travel sized products are shampoos and conditioners. However, I would love to see more of their products in travel size. Because I love their products so much, I definitely want to bring them with me when I travel. It would also be awesome if they created a travel care kit.
Sizing Of Their Package
Overall, I don’t have complaints about the size of their packages. However, there are a few that are taller which makes it awkward to store on a shelf. For instance, the texturizing spray, full size dry shampoo, and shaping spray are taller than the other products. It would be great if they can make it a bit shorter and slightly wider. That way the volume of product is the same and makes it easier to store!
My Honest Virtue Labs Hair Products Review
Overall I have tried most of their products (about 80% of them) and it is so hard for me to pick a favorite. They’re all incredible. I love that my hair feels like I left a salon and that it has been repairing my hair breakage. Any product that is made to repair damaged hair should be used when your hair is damp and then you can either air dry or blow dry your hair. If you want some volume, I highly recommend using the Volume Primer. Spray it to the roots of your hair, blow dry and it adds that natural volume to your hair.
More recently I’ve been adding the Virtue Healing Oil. It’s this rich silky oil that you add to your damp hair and is basically a miracle worker. Their hair styling products are incredible. I love using the texturizing spray and lifting powder to create that beachy wave look. You can find Virtue Labs products at Sephora, Nordstrom, Blue Mercury, Anthropologie, Neiman Marcus, and Cult Beauty. Below are all the products I tried and love.
If you are curious which products to start with, I highly recommend using their Hair Diagnostic tool. It’s a quick quiz and it will suggest products.
