Wedding Wednesdays: Engagement Photos – Outfit 1 (Tips on finding a Photographer)

When Tre and I were looking for a photographer, there was a specific style we wanted. We wanted to make sure whoever took our photos that he/she could capture the laughter, joy, and happiness without  it being posed.  We did a lot, and I mean a lot of searching. It was really important to us to find that perfect photographer. We wanted someone that could take us back to that time and place and feel as if we were there each time we look at the photos. That’s when Tre and I came across Blossom Lane Photography. We instantly connected with Meagan. She completely understood what we wanted: romantic, candid, use of natural light, and capturing the little details.  We couldn’t be more happy with how our engagement photos turned out. We have no doubt in our mind that she will do an incredible job at our wedding!

This leads me to speak about choosing your photographer. Prior to searching for one, it is important you know the style of photos you want. This will help narrow down the thousands of wedding photographers that will populate in your google search. If you’re unsure of your style, go through different wedding blogs. I got my inspiration from Style Me Pretty, Ruffled Blog, 100 layer Cake, and Pinterest. Here are a few tips:
1. Once you have narrowed it down, go through the photographer’s portfolio on their website. If they don’t have one, don’t hesitate to ask for a sample of their work! Remember, you want to be sure that you will be pleased with the end result.
2. Look up reviews on the photographers. Read what previous clients thought about them when they worked with the photographer(s). We found most of the reviews on Wedding Wire.
3. Check if their website provides a price for their service. You don’t want to waste your or the photographer’s time if you can’t afford their service. If it is not on there, don’t hesitate to contact them and ask!
4. Schedule an appointment with the photographer. Probably at this step, you and the photographer have exchanged several emails. However, meeting the photographer in person is important. Sometimes in an email, you can’t capture the person’s personality and style. I know that when I send emails, I tend to sound formal. In reality, I’m the complete opposite. When you meet your photographer, you get a better understanding of their style and see if there’s a connection – which you don’t get in an email. When Tre and I met Meagan, we got a long with her so well. She was able to describe what we wanted when we couldn’t describe it ourselves! Plus, she was fun to hang around with! Getting along with your photographer is key.  This can assure you that your big day will go smoothly with him/her.
5. Once you guys have selected a photographer, make sure your photo package includes an engagement session. Yes, it may cost a little extra money, but it is totally worth it. During an engagement session, you will get a chance to see your photographer at work before your wedding day. You get a feel for how he/she operates and an opportunity to see how the photos turned out before your wedding. This can assure you that you guys picked the right one or may need to select a new one (make sure you read the photographer’s policy before deciding to back out!).

Well these points are really very helpful for me because I am planning my wedding and seeking very talented photographer for both occasions. I have booked event halls in Philadelphia for my engagement party and looking for some deals on photo shoot sessions.
