Introducing Myself
After re-introducing myself in last night’s Instagram post for my #ThrowbackThursday, it inspired me to write today’s post and share things about myself that you all may not know. Some of you may be new to RD’s Obsessions and I think it is a great and fun way for me to introduce myself. For those of you who have been following this blog, I am curious to know if these facts about me are surprising or if you knew them already! I rarely share my personal life here except for my cancer journey. I always enjoyed reading these kind of posts from other bloggers and I hope you enjoy learning more about me!
10 Things You Might Not Know About Me
1. I’m Filipino
I’m not sure if this is obvious or not, but if you were curious, this is my nationality. There is some Spanish and Polynesian in there but I mostly define myself as a Filipina. Where are all my Pinoys and Pinays at haha! Are any of you guys Filipino or have Filipino friends? If you don’t have a Filipino friend, this article will convince you that you need one haha!
2. I listen to rap and hip-hop music.
I’m not really a music person. But whenever I do listen to music, my go to is rap and hip-hop. Basically if I can bust a move, I will most likely love it. I love listening to Don’t Drop That Thun Thun or Rack It Up. Those songs always put me in a good mood haha! Of course, 90’s rap and R&B is also amazinggg.
3. Speaking of music, I don’t know the lyrics to ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey
I feel like I’m the .1% who doesn’t know. I think it is a great song, but it is not my choice of song to listen to (see above haha). So whenever I’m with a group of people that are singing along to it, I just pretend I know the words and just lip sync.
4. I was an actuary.
Before my current job, I was in the actuarial field. I was a real math geek. I remember loving my numerical analysis class because I loved doing proofs haha. Now I just blank out when someone asks me to add something haha. I passed 2 actuarial exams and I was going for my third exam when I got a random call about being perfect for some open positions at the company I currently work for.
5. I accepted a job I didn’t interview for.
I honestly didn’t think I was originally qualified for the current position I am in at work. And I interviewed for the entry-level position and HR called me and said I was not a good fit for the role (immediately was bummed and didn’t know why HR was still talking haha). Then I realized they said “but we would like to offer you a position higher than what you interviewed for”. I literally had to ask several times what they just said. What are the chances! Six years later, still doing the same thing…
6. My wedding was the smallest wedding my family has been to.
When I told my then fiance (now husband) I’m thinking about having a small wedding, he thought I meant 100 guests or less. When I told him 300 he was shocked to hear that I thought it was small. I come from a big family! My mom is one of 13 and my dad is one of 8. So I easily had over 100 first cousins.
7. My favorite animal is an elephant.
I have loved elephants ever since I was a little girl. Now I just love collecting anything elephants but only if the trunk is up. When the trunk is up it symbolizes good luck. I have lots of elephant figurines (trunk up, of course) everywhere in our house. It is fun when people come over and try to guess where they are haha. I currently have my eye on this elephant doorstop – so cute!
8. This blog was my husband’s idea.
That’s right, you read correctly. In the car one day, my husband (then boyfriend) randomly asked me when will I start my blog. I looked at him like he was crazy and he said “Oh I thought you would want to. You’d be good at it”. I avoided starting a blog for a few months, but eventually caved. I told my husband I’d have a blog if he takes the photos and from there the rest is history.
9. I ran a marathon in less than 4 hours.
Before I started this blog, I was an avid runner. An easy day for me was 7 miles. Almost every weekend during the summer months I would have a race. For the Chicago Marathon, I finished in less than 4 hours. Ironically, I ran the Susan G Komen 10K race and I finished third. Looking back, part of me thinks it was a sign.
10. Growing up, I wanted to be a rocket scientist or the president.
Oh man I was a very ambitious little girl and I was for sure positive that I would be the President of the United States and my backup plan was to be a rocket scientist. Boy was I wrong haha! Not going to lie, kind of glad none of those career aspirations came true.

I can't believe you were an actuary – I'm an Actuarial Science major! I've passed the first four exams and I interned with CNA in Chicago in the summers of 2015 and 2016. I'm actually hoping to go into more of a data analytics role than an actuarial role.
