How To Layer Clothes For Fall

I’ve been living in layers. I’m either piling on more clothes or taking off more clothes. The weather is constantly changing and I love how Fall is the best time to test my layering skills. Overall, I’m pretty simple when it comes to layering. I never want to feel bulky when I layer. Otherwise, I’m just uncomfortable throughout the day.

How To Layer Clothes For Fall

It’s All About That Third Piece

Do you know what third piece I’m referring to? I’m talking about that outer layer. Usually it is your coat or jacket. But it can also be a blazer or cardigan. For instance, you can wear a chunky knit sweater with a classic trench coat. Not only does this combination keep you warm on chilly days, but it creates a chic and classic look. Make Sure Colors and Patterns Look Great Together

Mix printing and color matching is the perfect way to add personality to your Fall layering. I usually gravitate towards neutral colors such as tan, beige, black, cream, rust, etc. To add personality to my outfit, I add some prints. The most popular prints are plaid prints, checked prints, leopard prints, etc.

Mix Textures

Similar to color matching, I love to mix texture. It adds dimension to your layering especially if you are keeping everything in a solid color or neutral color. My favorite way to add texture is by wearing a teddy coat or faux leather pants. Lately, I’ve been eying these budget-friendly leather pants.

Wear Summer Into Fall

Layer Underneath

I tend to talk about layering over your clothes. But did you know you can layering underneath? Found something sleeveless you like or perhaps need extra warmth to you baggy sweater? How about wear a tissue turtleneck underneath or a collared shirt?

This layering is great for cold days. It is super casual yet it will keep you warm. Notice how I kept everything in Fall neutral colors. I wore a cashmere sweater with an oversized wool coat.

Summer To Fall

Here is an outfit that will help you maximize your summer dress. This is great for warmer Fall day. I also think this is a great work appropriate outfit. I added elements of Fall hues by accessorizing with brown leather belt and adding in an oversized blazer.

Add Leather Moto Jacket

Wearing leather is always best in the Fall. This gives a more edgy look to your casual outfit. This would be my go-to outfit for errands. For extra comfort, I’d switch out the boots to a white sneaker

Want to be dressed up yet cozy? My solution is wear a sweater dress. I kept everything monochromatic.

Layering Over A Dress

This is another outfit that will extend the longevity of your summer dresses. I can see this outfit worn in so many different occasions from work to date night, etc. Instead of wearing my belt underneath my blazer, I decided to accentuate the waist and wear the belt over the blazer.

Laid Back With Coatigan

Coatigans are the best. They’re basically in-between a coat and a cardigan. This is great if you just want to throw something on. This outfit can be considered a leisure outfit or potentially an out and about outfit.
