How To Dress For Disney
Disney Shirt: Uniqlo ($10)
Backpack: c/o Vera Bradley
Sneakers: c/o Allbirds ($95)
Skort: Amazon ($19)
Sunglasses: Anthropologie ($38)
Minnie Ears: Disney World
Last month, we took a family vacation to Disney World. I explained in this post why we had this vacation, and for sure it was one magical trip! Every time I go to Disney World, the magic never seems to fade and it always seems as if it was my first time there. We are for sure a Disney fanatic family and already have our next Disney trip planned 🙂
Going to Disney World definitely requires a lot of planning, but all that planning e.g. advanced dinner reservations, getting our fastpasses, etc is all worth it. Aside from planning the vacation, planning on how to dress for Disney is important too. I’ve heard from other first time Disney go-ers that they wish they knew more about how to dress for Disney. So I thought I’d share my knowledge on what to wear to Disney without losing style.
How To Dress For Disney
-
Wear Comfortable Shoes
Wearing comfortable shoes is a must. If you plan on being at the parks all day, you will definitely be on your feet A LOT. There will be a lot of walking. We walked approximately 20,000 steps per day! That’s almost 10 miles! I decided to bring along my Allbirds Wool Runner sneakers. If you haven’t heard of Allbirds, I highly recommend checking them out. The Wool Runner sneakers are lightweight, flexible for more mobility, wick moisture, breathable, minimize odor, and my favorite feature – keeps you cool in the heat and warm in the cold. Which is exactly what you need if you will be walking about 10 miles a day in Disney World.

Use a Backpack
Being at the park all day (especially if you are going to more than one Disney park in a day) means almost no time to stop at your hotel during the day. Plus, who wants to stop at their hotel and miss out on all the magic ;). This means that you should bring everything you need with you. It will save you the time and hassle of going back to your hotel. In my backpack, I had a water bottle, camera, 2 camera lens (our favorite lens and the kit lens), rain poncho, and other personal items. Carrying a purse may not be large enough to hold all of this stuff and the backpack makes it easier to be more hands free. I went with the Vera Bradley backpack because it was so functional for anyone on the go. It is roomie but not too large and it has awesome compartments. My favorite compartment is the section where I can place my iPhone portable charger. Plus, it is so chic! Sometimes when dressing comfortable, it can be so difficult to also be stylish. This backpack helps adds a little je ne sais quoi to your outfit!

Sunscreen
The sun is always shining in Florida all year round and the sun is pretty strong. Therefore, it is so important to protect yourself from the sun. As you all may know, I have expressed how strongly I feel about making sure you protect yourself from the sun all year round. You don’t need to feel the heat to get sun damage. My all time favorite face sunscreen is the MISSHA sun milk. This stuff is amazing. It doesn’t have that usual sunscreen feel. It has a more light and powdery soft texture. Trust me, you will not want any other face sunscreen after this.
-
Bring Layers
The temperature can change from day to night, indoor to outdoor, and sometimes rain passes by throughout the day. It is usually warmer during the day and cools off at night, and the A/C is always blasting so it’s definitely cooler indoors. I always bring a cardigan for the temperature changes and a poncho when rain unexpectedly shows up. Can you see why I suggested that a backpack is the bag of choice?
-
Hat and/or Sunglasses
There’s a reason why they call Florida the Sunshine State. That sun is always there and it likes to get in your eyes. Protect those eyes from the sun by wearing a hat or sunglasses. I decided to wear these red-framed sunglasses because it kind of reminded me of Minnie. And I can wear it outside of Disney World.
-
Don’t Wear a Dress and/or Skirt
Definitely do not wear a dress or a skirt. It will be tempting to (I know I was, I love dresses and the weather was hot!), but they are a hassle. If you plan on getting on the rides, getting in and out of the rides is something you do not want to worry about. I recommend wearing shorts or jeans. I’m not into wearing shorts, but since it happened to be hot when we were there, I went for a skort. I had the satisfaction of wearing a skirt with the comfort and ease of shorts. Plus, it made my casual outfit look cute haha.

Wear a Disney Shirt
After all, you are at Disney World and it is so much more fun to wear a Disney shirt! I love to get mine at Uniqlo. They have an amazing selection and the fabric of their shirts is so soft. I think I really love their Disney shirts because they don’t have the overly touristy style. And they happen to be a Disney partner. So it has the quality and affordability of Uniqlo clothing but in a cute Disney version.
This post ended up being much longer than I anticipated but hopefully my tips on how to dress for Disney will make your experience at the Parks much more magical.
My goal is to write a travel guide to any places we’ve traveled to. If you guys are interested in a travel guide to Disney World, let me know. I can have a Disney expert (aka my husband) do a guest post 😉

Late to the party here, but question about the AllBirds… I’ve had a few people recommend them to me, but I’m skeptical about how cool they are in 85 degree weather.
I’m torn between them and something like Nike’s Free Flyknit’s with a more meshlike upper.
How warm was it when you went, and how hot/sweaty did your feet feel after putting in all those miles?
Thanks!
I’ve never tried the Nike Free Flyknit but I do know that the Allbird is the most breathable shoes I have owned. When we were in Disney World, we average 10 miles a day and it was 90 degrees and humid. I love that it is flexible too. I hope this helps!
