My Top Free Assembly Picks At Walmart. Sustainable Fashion Under $40
I’m probably late to the game but I recently discovered a clothing line called Free Assembly. Free Assembly is exclusively at Walmart. A lot of influencers have been talking about Walmart’s clothing brands, but honestly, I never paid attention to it. The one time their clothing caught my eye was the dress I wore for our baby announcement news. Otherwise, I just skipped.
It’s been at least 10 years since I’ve walked into a Walmart. A lot has to do with the fact that Walmart is non-existent in the city. It’s more prevalent in the suburbs, but we go to the suburbs to see family and not go shopping haha.
Anyways, Free Assembly at Walmart has caught my eye because of its classic and chic style. The style is something I would find at Everlane or Madewell but wayyyy more affordable. Everything I found is under $40. According to Walmart, Free Assembly is their sustainable fashion brand. They use only organic cotton, low water impact, and produced in facilities that aim to protect the environment.
Not only does Free Assembly have women’s clothing, but they also have men’s clothing too.
My Top Free Assembly Picks
1 Classic Coveralls With Long Sleeves
Coveralls are utility style jumpsuits. Comes in 2 colors – Misty Rose and Faded Spruce.
2 Short Sleeve Camp Shirt
It’s a floral print blouse with a notch collar and a relaxed fit. It comes in 4 colors – Green Floral, Rust Flora, Canvas, and True Black.
3 Puff Sleeve Cardigan
This is a v-neck cardigan with puff sleeves and ribbed cuffs. It has a relaxed fit and comes in 2 colors – Peyote and Slate.
4 Short Sleeve Maxi Shirt Dress
I think this is my favorite so it is high on my list to purchase. A maxi silhouette is perfect for Spring and it reminded me of this dress I used to own. I’m waiting until after the baby is born to decide what size to get since I know my postpartum body will be different. It comes in 2 colors – Lemon Sorbet and True Black.
5 Crewneck T-Shirt With Long Sleeves
A long sleeve crewneck is classic and you can never have too many. I’m particularly eyeing the striped ones (of course haha!). It comes in 7 colors – Humboldt Stripe Chutney, Faded Spruce, Humboldt Stripe Dark Navy, Light Heather Grey, Optic White, Rose Smoke, and True Black.
6 Women’s Retro Flared Jeans
Personally, I think these look more wide-leg jeans versus flared jeans and it is why I was so drawn to it. I love the light wash color and high-waisted style.
7 Sleeveless Mock Neck Midi Dress
A mock neck sleeveless dress is so very flattering in my opinion. This style of dress will look great styled as a casual outfit or a date night outfit because it can go with any type of shoes. If I get this dress, I can see myself getting a lot of wear out of it. It comes in 2 colors – Duck Green and True Black.
8 V-Neck Cardigan Sweater
Can you tell that I’m really into v-neck cardigans lately? This cardigan has a bold button-detail which I think makes the classic cardigan more chic. It comes in 4 colors – Colony Blue, Claw, Chutney, and Dark Navy.
9 Original 90’s Straight Jeans
I prefer wearing straight jeans over skinny jeans as long as they are ankle-length jeans. Even though I showcased the white color, I really like the light wash because it comes slightly distressed. Overall it comes in 4 different colors – Bone, Light Wash, Misty Rose, and Medium Crease.
10 Shirred Button Front Shirt
The texture from the allover shirring, the balloon sleeves, and style is so chic! For sure a perfect Spring blouse.
Have you tried Free Assembly? Which clothing items are you eyeing?

Jill – Doused in Pink
Thank you Jill!
I was pleasantly surprised to see that WalMart had created a sustainable line, especially given their multiple past infractions against sustainability. However, I was disappointed when it appeared that they did not carry plus sizes when I searched their collection. It’s possible I may have missed them as I just did a quick look, but from what I saw, there were barely any. That was definitely disheartening as so few sustainable brands carry plus sizes or price conscious pieces, which leaves a lot of people who would otherwise spend their money on more ethical brands with no real option but to shop fast fashion or secondhand. While I love shopping secondhand and thrifting, you sometimes want a specific piece or something new and that can only be achieved through shopping new. Yet, the options are very limited.

Hi Sydney, thank you so much for pointing it out. I am so sorry that Walmart fell short on the size inclusivity. Since this seems to be a relatively new line, I hope that they continue to expand this collection and provide more for every size. Thank you again for bringing this to my attention.
I have heard of this brand but I didn’t realize that it’s sustainable! I don’t normally go to Walmart but I’ll have to check it out.
