As you all may know, the CDC highly encourages you to wear a face mask when going outside or when social distancing may be difficult. An example of when social distancing is difficult is when going to the grocery store. Depending on where you are and what you need to get, there may be people who are in close proximity (especially when walking down the aisles). In Chicago, our Mayor and Governor also recommended to wear a non-medical cloth face mask. I believe other major cities such as Los Angeles and New York City have the same mandate.
The reason why wearing a face mask is important is because it will help prevent the spread of infection and prevent from contracting any airborne infectious disease. For instance, when someone coughs or sneezes (and sometimes talks), the germs get released into the air and infect anyone nearby. Since there are still so many things unknown about the coronavirus disease it is best to be cautious and wear a cloth face mask.
However, in order for this to be effective, everyone should be wearing it. Have you heard of the urine test? It is a great example of how wearing the mask works. Below is an image explaining the urine test.

Importance Of Wearing A Face Mask (Image Source)
Makes total sense right?!
Since it is required to wear a cloth face mask in public under the “new normal”, I figured I might as well wear cute and stylish masks. Am I right? So I’m doing a round up of cloth face masks that are both functional and stylish.
12 Cloth Face Masks That Are Stylish
All the face masks and face coverings I am sharing below are non-medical masks. Therefore, these cloth face masks are not a direct substitute to the N95 surgical masks. Please do keep in mind that it is very important to use non-medical face masks so that essential workers have enough medical face masks to use. Essential workers are most likely exposed to more people which can increase their chance of infection.
All the masks that I independently selected below are a good mixture of well-known brands and small businesses. Keep in mind that every mask purchase is final sale.
1 Floral, Gingham, Stripes, or Solid Color Face Masks
These fabric face masks are by the seller MorningLightApparel on Etsy. My selection is caramel colored theme and you can pick from different prints and patterns or a solid color. Each fabric mask is a 2 layer cotton mask and does not have a pocket for a filter. They’re washable and each cost $9. This seller also has other cute face mask designs.
2 Floral Fabric Face Mask
This is another design by MorningLightApparel. I didn’t even realize I picked them twice. Like I said they’re super cute and this set of masks focuses on floral prints. It has the same specs as above – 2 layer cotton mask and no pocket for filter. Each mask is $9.
3 Protective Adult & Child Mask
This is another seller found on Etsy called Sparrow and Lily. You can select an adult fabric mask or a child fabric mask. Each mask is only $5.15 and they have a double layer and no pockets for filter.
4 Rifle Paper Co Face Mask
If you love the brand Rifle Paper Co, then you’ll love these face masks. This seller, JujuandNana, used Rifle Paper Co fabrics to make the masks. I have an obsession with Rifle Paper Co so I seriously want every mask. This seller’s masks are double layered with pockets for filters. Each mask is $20.
5 Amadi Plaid Reusable Loop Face Mask
I think these plaid prints are so cute and they’re from Anthropologie. These particular masks are made with soft cotton fabric and have a pocket for a filter. These masks feature a cushioned nose wire for a more custom fit. These are $14 each. Anthropologie has so many cute face masks and their inventory changes every day.
As I mentioned last month, Anthroplogie has been giving back to the community since the pandemic started. They’ve donated to local Feed America food banks and donated protective masks to healthcare workers.
6 Gingham Face Mask
This mask is from a small business called Sunday Ritual and the Navy Gingham (see their Etsy store here)is the one I’m wearing. I love their collection of masks. They’re all cute and have a variety to pick from (including kids masks too). My gingham mask is pleated and double lined. Each costs $10.95.
7 Premium Cotton Face Mask
This seller from Etsy, PopFizzCheers, has so many cute face masks. They are all mostly floral print with a vintage feel to it. Each mask is $25. Their masks are all pleated, double layer.
8 Pretty Plum Sugar Face Mask
These masks come in a set of 2. A set is $20. This face covering has a nose contour shape and elastic ear hoops. Each mask includes a cotton lining and room for a filter insert. Pretty Plum Sugar has been using leftover fabrics. Therefore, the color and prints of the masks are constantly changing.
9 Michael Stars Pleated Face Mask
Michael Stars face masks also come in a set of 2. The set is $20. I own the colorful striped one. These are sustainable face coverings and the material is very soft. It is the material that they use on their clothes. If you are new to Michael Stars, they are a LA Based clothing company known for having the softest fabric on their pieces. Super comfortable.
As a bigger fashion brand, in addition to selling non-medical masks to the public, they are donating masks to support healthcare facilities across the U.S. Each mask purchase will help them contribute to the community! They’re also supporting those who are greatly impacted by COVID-19. They are working with grassroots organizations to provide direct relief efforts to the most vulnerable with the One For All campaign.
10 Tie-Dye Mask
This tie-dye masks feature two layers of woven fabric and a lightweight nose wire to mold around the nose. Each mask is $9. This is from the seller Essence of Cuteness. They also have several other tie-dye colored masks. All the masks have the same style just different colors.
11 Protective Face Covering With Filter
These are only $2.78. However, according the seller, the patterns will be based on inventory. These masks come with adjustable nose wires and filter and are made with cotton soft fabric. The filter lasts for about 2-3 days. The mask is reusable and washable, but the filter is not.
12 Blue Floral Face Mask
How pretty is this mask?! This mask also has a kid mask option too. They’re $12 each. It’s a fabric face mask with removable nose wire. They’re made with cotton with a contour shape and they’re pre-shunk. This seller on Etsy, MorganKBoutique, has other reusable masks that are super cute too. The other masks are slightly different, they don’t have the contour shape. They’re pleated with filter pockets.
More Face Masks & Thoughts
In addition to the above list, I also want to recognize other favorite fashion brands that have been giving back. I didn’t list them earlier because their masks sold out. I mentioned them last month as companies giving during coronavirus and on Instagram and it wouldn’t be fair to not add them to this list. These brands, J.Crew, Madewell, Alice & Olivia, and Old Navy, have been creating masks for the public and donating masks to essential workers as well. Unfortunately, due to their popularity, their non-medical masks sold out. Good news is that some of them are accepting pre-orders. So as soon as they are available, you are the first to know and have them.
I really love that a lot of these fashion brands have been recycling and utilizing extra and leftover fabrics. Not only is it sustainable but it is making good use of something that was going to be wasted and thrown away.
I’m curious to know, are you all required to wear face masks when you are out in public? I have friends who live in other states and they tell me they don’t wear a mask. So it is very interesting to see how different cities and states are handling this situation. In my opinion, wearing a mask is not only helping yourself, but is being respectful to others. If you are not into wearing a mask, make sure you are social distancing but when you come across someone in close proximity, just put your mask on temporarily!

Here in Bahrain it’s been mandatory since a long time now, maybe over a month.
So we had to wear it when we are in public.
So I made it myself to keep us safe and I also tried making it fashionable when using cute prints. I also used gingham for one of the masks I made.
And I also find cute sequins elastics and ribbons to make it a little bit more fun.

I love that you have been making your masks cute and fashionable!
Thanks for the different mask links.
Who knows how long Illinois will have to wear them.
You’re welcome! From what I hear, until there is a good solution to managing coronavirus, it will be the new normal.
Those are cute masks! I remember seeing the urine test online. I laughed!!

Effortlessly Sophisticated
It’s a good example to showcase why wearing a mask is important.
I have your gingham one in solid blue and absolutely love it! As much as you can love a face mask haha. Love that face mask graphic you included.

kileen
cute & little
Thank you Kileen! I was thinking of getting more too haha.
These are indeed cute looking masks. They may not be the medical grade but these are good enough when going shopping in less crowded spaces.
http://www.busyandfab.com
Exactly! It’s not necessary for an ordinary individual to use medical grade masks.
It’s crazy to even think that masks will be the next big accessory but honestly since it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon it makes total sense. Love the prints on these! xoxo, Sarah
That’s my exact thoughts. Thanks Sarah!
Your face masks are too cute. I’ve always used surgical masks since they’re the ones that I have and I’m a dentist so I have some stocks in our house. I’ve always wanted to get a 2 or 3 cute face masks online. I love the gingham one that you’re wearing! Thanks for these recommendations! 🙂

Thank you Samantha!
Aww number 4 is so cute! I’ve never seen a round up of face masks, but I love all of these print options.
Thank you Caila! #4 is so you!
I was chatting with a girl at the grocery store the other day because she was wearing a fun Wonder Woman face mask, and I said, “who thought that the fashion statement in 2020 would be face masks?” It’s crazy to think about, but it’s true. And I’m glad you’ve found some that work for your own personal style!
Right?! I think we are all trying to make the best of it. IF we have to wear them, might as well make it cute! haha
These are so pretty! I have a pink one but I’ve been on the lookout for other stylish masks! Thanks for sharing!

You’re welcome Lizzie!
That little graphic is hilarious and adorable! LOL It’s crazy to think this blog post is totally applicable. What a crazy time.
Haha I know but it totally makes sense!
Love that white dress on you! 🙂 It’s nice you are able to find some cute masks too! Here in Australia we don’t have a lot of community transmission so we don’t have to wear masks but you see some people wearing them in the grocery stores (people who are sick have to wear them of course).
Hope you are having a good week 🙂 It’s a bit cold here – winter has arrived a week early!
It’s always so interesting hear what other countries are doing! Hope you are staying safe!
Haha, the pee test totally makes sense and those masks are cute! Here in Australia, they’re telling us not to wear masks unless you have symptoms. We currently have no active cases around here so it seems pretty safe, still maintaining social distancing though, of course.
So interesting! Glad to hear no active cases. Stay safe!
It’s nice that brand are making cuter masks. I know it’s not what they look like that matters, but it’s nice to have a mask that looks good too! xo
Makeup Muddle
I totally agree! A lot of these are also small businesses too!
That pee graphic is hilarious and definitely makes a point! Since we have to wear masks when we are out and about, they might as well be cute! Love all of these options!
