Both Summer & Fall Weather
Within the same week, Chicago had both Summer and Fall weather. Talk about confusing and probably not good for my immune system either! With Chicago summers being the shortest season ever, I wanted to maximize my summer dresses as much as possible. Plus, I’m not ready to put away my summer clothes yet (remember I’m a summertime girl haha). I also want to spend less on shopping for the next season. So the best way for me to accomplish that is transitioning my summer dresses into a Fall outfit.
Transitioning your summer wardrobe into Fall is a lot easier than you think. I’ve been having fun experimenting with my summer clothes and seeing what I can come up with.
Can You Tell The Difference?
Can you tell which is the Summer style versus the Fall style between the 2 outfits in these photos? Don’t they both look so different?! But if you look closely, I only had to tweak a few things. It wasn’t as hard as I thought to transition summer dresses into Fall.
How To Transition Summer Dresses Into Fall
I’ll go over 3 super easy tips to transition summer dresses into Fall.
Layer with a Basic Tee
Layering your dress with a basic tee (with sleeves) immediately transforms your summer dress to a more Fall vibe. Let’s be real, you don’t layer when it is hot out. The thought of extra clothing during the summer months is already making me sweat haha. Wearing anything with sleeves in the Fall though helps keep you warm when it is crisp out.
How cute is the button detailing on this tee? It’s what sold me and it gives this outfit a little sumthin sumthin. I’m also feeling the stripes, and I think this striped tee or this long-sleeve striped tee would be cute with this dress.
Change Your Shoes
Switching out your sandals to pointed toe mules. Pointed toe mules scream Fall transition. Or you can also wear some ankle boots! If your dress is a minidress, I love pairing it with over the knee boots!
Switch Up Your Accessories
Where and how you wear your accessories makes a difference! Notice how I wore my scarf in my hair in my Summer outfit and then I wore the scarf around my neck in my Fall outfit. When it’s hot out, all I want to do is keep my hair away from my face and neck to get as much cool air through, which means using the scarf as a hair tie! For Fall, we usually use scarves around our necks to keep us warm. Although this tiny scarf doesn’t exactly keep us warm during cold weather, it creates that illusion. (But it will keep you too warm during the summer months though. I tried to make it work, and I ended up taking it off haha).
So there ya go! This is how I transition summer dresses into Fall. If you have any additional tips, leave them in the comments! I’d love to hear them!
