I know I’m not the only one that loves an easy breezy midi dress during Summer. It just makes wearing clothes so much easier during those really hot days. Although I will admit that last week, Chicago had a glimpse of Fall weather for a couple days. It was strange and I slightly panicked haha. It’s only August and I want to hold onto Summer as long as possible. Because once Fall weather comes around it zips right through to Winter. I can’t recall ever getting a true Fall season in Chicago. We might get it for a week or two at most.
Easy Breezy Midi Dress
Alright I’m babbling. I really want to just talk about this ‘Easy Breezy Midi Dress’ from Free People. In general, Free People is a pro with making cute, breathable, and flowy dresses. In fact, I briefly shared this dress in June. I wore this dress when we had a picnic at Oz Park. I wanted to look dressed up without looking overly done.
What I love about this dress is the style. It has thin spaghetti straps with a slight sweetheart neckline. There’s also a lace up detail in the chest area. The back of the dress is smocked so that there is room to stretch. This dress is different from other flowy Free People dresses because of the fabric. It has more structure so it is not flimsy at all. It maintains that volume. Even though the fabric has more structure and is heavier than a thin cotton, I still think it feels very lightweight despite what other reviews say.
I also love that it is not see-through at all for a white dress. It’s so hard to find a lightweight, white dress that is not see-through. Again, it has POCKETS! Best feature of a dress. I know you all agree with me.
Sizing & Fit
Let’s talk about the size and fit of this dress. First I’ll share my size so that you get a sense about what I’m referring to when I talk about the fit. Hopefully, it gives you a better point of reference. I mention my size in almost every post. So if you already know this just skip the next paragraph and read the following.
My height is 5’4″, my weight is 140 lbs, and my chest is 32C. For bottoms such as pants, jeans, or skirts I normally wear a size small / size 27 / or size 4. When it comes to tops, I usually wear a size small or size 4. For dresses and jumpsuits, I also wear a size small or size 4. My body type is straight but with a bubble butt. So I typically go up a size for bottoms so that they can go over my butt.
Fit Of The Dress
So for this easy breezy midi dress, I ended up getting my true size which is a small. Therefore, I would say it fits true to size. Even though it is a midi dress, it does fall all the way to my ankle. So it is closer to a maxi dress on me. The bust is where it gets tricky. You definitely have to unlace the laces on the dress to make sure it fits in the top. And that part is annoying.
Based on how the chest area is constructed, unfortunately, I’m not quite sure if it will work for women who are considered bustier. Even though the back is smocked.
But overall I highly recommend this dress. I just love the style of it. So if your chest works for this dress, you’ll probably love it too!
Accessorizing with Straw Hat
I thought this dress would be fun to accessorize with a straw hat. In general, anything straw-like is always the best accessory during this time of year. My favorite straw hat is from Brixton. The quality is sooo good and it fits real well. And it adds a more summer vibe feel to the outfit. So I only wore this hat when the sun was at its peak. As soon as the sun started setting, I took it off.
So what do you think of this Easy Breezy Midi Dress? Would you wear it?
