It’s been a couple months since we went to Puerto Rico, and with today being officially Spring, I figured I’d share what I wore during our time there. If you are thinking about going to Puerto Rico or are curious about Puerto Rico, I did create a travel guide. That travel guide goes over where to stay, what to do, what to see, and a day by day itinerary!
A lot of the outfits I brought with me were inspired by Spring fashion. Which is why I thought today would be a perfect day to share it. Happy First Day of Spring!! Plus, I’ve been getting questions about my outfits that I posted on Instagram. A lot of these pieces are old. I’ve purchased them in the past year or so. So I will do my best to find similar ones. I hope that is okay! I’m not a fan of wearing clothes to just wear once. I’m all about re-wearing them! Otherwise it would be a waste of money.
There is a total of 5 different outfits since we were there for 5 days. Some outfits will be shown a couple times but with different backdrops. The scenery there is so beautiful with so many bright colors that I can’t help but share more! All of these photos were taken in San Juan. One thing that was consistent with my outfits was my sandals. I’ve worn this pair so much that I need a new one! But since our trip to Puerto Rico was only 5 days, I was packing light.
What I Wore In Puerto Rico
Quick Packing Tips
Before I begin sharing my outfits, I thought I’d sharing some tips and a glimpse of my packing list. Keep in mind that even though Puerto Rico is part of the United States, it still has a tropical climate (even in January when we went).
Loose Fitting Clothes
Most of my outfits were loose fitting since I knew it was going to be warm. I’d say the temperatures were in the 80’s and sunny. I mainly wore dresses since that’s what I feel the most comfortable in, but I recommend packing a tank top and wear shorts (if dresses aren’t for you). Tre wore pants the first day and regretted it and was glad he brought shorts with him. If you plan on going and visiting Mosquito Bay, it is highly recommended that you wear clothes that you don’t mind getting wet in!
Comfortable Shoes
Speaking of shoes, you want to make sure they’re comfortable. I wore sandals that was great for walking too. You want shoes where your feet can breathe. Therefore, I recommend bringing flip flops and walking shoes. You’ll be doing a lot of walking! Especially if you are exploring Old San Juan. Traveling by foot is the best way to see the town.
Water Bottle
Make sure you always have a water bottle with you! You will be walking a lot, the temperature will feel hotter than 80 degrees, and it will be sunny and you will quickly get dehydrated. If you have a portable water bottle, then bring it. We were constantly buying water whenever we stopped by a convenient store.
Sunglasses
A pair of sunglasses is a must. It’s so sunny and you don’t want to be squinting your eyes the entire time you are there.
Sunscreen
Last but not least, don’t forget your screen. The sun is strong and you will easily burn up. Even though I have a naturally tanned skin, I had some sunburn and they later turned into dark brown spots haha. So make sure that sunscreen is in your luggage.
Day One Outfit
Dress: Vineyard Vines
This maxi dress was from Vineyard Vines Fall collection (2018). Remember when I mentioned we had a warm October? Well this was when the dress was available and of course, right when I got it, it got super cold. So I saved it so I could wear it in PR. Below are similar options.
Day Two Outfit
I’m a sucker for floral wide-leg pants, and I got this exact one from my favorite Chicago boutique store, Alice and Wonder. And I’m almost always wearing one during vacation (if it goes with the location). This bodysuit is my favorite! It can be worn for working out as well. This outfit looks great if you prefer a tank top instead of a bodysuit. I also shared other ways to style it here. My purse was a gift from my sister when she went to Italy. It is the perfect travel size bag. This Dooney & Burke bag is almost identical to my purse.
It was definitely warm enough for a pool day. So in the afternoon, we took a dip in the pool! Love this off the shoulder one-piece I purchased last year. This swimsuit brought out my self-confidence.
Day Three Outfit
It’s this black bodysuit again. Don’t judge me! It is very moisture-wicking plus I don’t really sweat much and it looked so cute with the floral skirt. This floral skirt was a favorite purchase from the Atlantic-Pacific x Halogen collection. I really hope Blair comes out with another collection. I couldn’t wait to wear this skirt in warmer temps. When it came out, it was late Fall and I gave it a more wintery style.
Unfortunately, this exact skirt is now sold out. However, the style is very similar to my Amazon pleated skirts selections! It has the midi length, pleated style, floral prints, and elastic waist-band.
Day Four Outfit
Free People has the best dresses to travel in. Seriously their dresses are perfect if to wear in Puerto Rico. They match perfectly in the back drop. I got this dress last summer. It’s flowy, can be casual or dressy, and it has pockets!
Day Five Outfit
This is a dress I actually bought in Barcelona from a store called Oysho. Unfortunately, they are only available in Europe. I do hope that they expand to the U.S. because their stuff is so cute, the quality is amazing, and it is affordable! This was another go-to dress for me in the summer.
Hope you all enjoyed my outfits and inspire your Spring/Travel/Summer wardrobe! And let me know if you ever plan to travel to Puerto Rico. Tre and I seriously can’t wait to go back. We LOVED Puerto Rican food, the locals were super nice, and it was just a nice getaway from the cold Chicago winter.
