Before I discovered the satin pleated shirtdress, I was initially wanting this pleated skirt. I’ve seen several people on Instagram wear it and I instantly wanted it. I love that it has a double slit which I think makes it unique for a skirt, comes in 3 different colors, and it was only $60.
Noticed The Satin Pleated Shirtdress
As I was about to add the skirt to my checkout bag, I noticed the satin pleated shirtdress. Basically, it was the pleated skirt in a dress form. And I don’t own that many dresses for Fall, which is something I want to change for this season. So I clicked to get a closer look and loved it.
Initially I got it in the Rose color because I almost always can’t resist anything in pink haha. When I got it, it did have a pretty rose color but I was underwhelmed. The fit was not how I envisioned it and a lot had to do with the fact that I was confused with the size and if I actually got the right size.
Change In Topshop Sizing
When it comes to Topshop, in the past, their sizing usually runs small so I always size up. When I ordered this dress I ordered a size 6 and even Nordstrom recommended to size up. Unfortunately, the waistline of the dress wasn’t as snug around my waist which required me to tie the waist really tight. The waist is slightly elastic and clothing with an elastic waistband is supposed to be a little bit more snug. I knew I had to try on a smaller size.
The next day I went to Nordstrom and luckily they had the same exact satin pleated shirtdress available. When I tried on the US Size 4, it looked better. I saw the sales associate holding the same dress in the tan color and asked to try it on and loved it soooo much better. I didn’t expect to love the color on me because I thought it might be too close to my skin color. But tan is not the right way to describe the color. It’s more like a golden rust color. And right now, I am loving warm tones for Fall.
Thoughts On Sizing
Moral of the story, I’m glad I went into the store to try it on because I am obsessed with this satin pleated shirtdress. However, I really think Topshop has changed their sizing. Even though I ended up getting my usual size (size 4), I still think I could have fit into a size 2. I also decided to try on this floral dress in the fitting room and accidentally grabbed a size 2 instead of a 4. The size 2 fits so perfectly and that was a wrap style dress. In the past, I tried on a size 2 Topshop wrap dress and barely could fit into it. In the future, I think I will try on more Topshop dresses to see if their sizing has become more true to size or you have to size up. But for this dress, I think it works getting your true size.
