I usually gravitate towards wearing a white dress in the summer opposed to a little black dress. It’s the perfect addition to my summer wardrobe. I’ll wear a white cotton dress, white linen dress, white satin dress, name a fabric, and I’ll wear it. Something about wearing white in the summer has that cool, effortless effect to it. Don’t ya think?

For the most part, when I wear a white dress, I usually learn towards a long white dress, a midi white dress, or a white shirt dress. You will rarely see me wear a mini dress. I don’t know if it is an age thing but I feel like I am no longer suitable for a mini dress. Who else feels this way?

I also love to wear a Summer white dress because it’s so versatile. It’s like working with a blank canvas. No matter what you wear with it, it will work. In my opinion, it’s all about finding the best and perfect accessory. This is why I’ll be sharing how to accessorize a white summer dress.

Wear Straw / Rattan Accessories

Accessorizing a white dress with items that have that straw or rattan material will really give your outfit an ultimate summery look. Either you wear a straw hat, straw belt, or straw bag. You can even wear it with a black belt to give the outfit some contrast. The straw belt I mentioned comes with a black one and it’s super cute!

Wear A Wide-Brim Hat

Speaking of wearing a straw hat, I love wearing a wide-brim hat in the Summer. The wide-brim helps protects your face from the sun and gives that retro Summer vibe.

How To Accessorize A White Summer Dress

Wear A Headband

Headbands have really stepped up their style and game in the past few years. There are so many cute and affordable headbands. I usually love to wear a turban, twist knot headband. All you have to do is plop it on your head and voila, your outfit is complete.

Wear Jewelry

Wear your favorite piece of jewelry. It adds a nice accent to your white dress. Either you wear your go-to minimalist earrings or your statement necklace. My go-to is always my monogram necklace. It’s subtle yet makes a statement in person.

Add Pop Of Color

Try to add a pop of color from your jewelry to your handbag to your shoes. I love to add a pop of color from my shoes. I’m really loving the the bright color sandals from J.Crew. They’re so cute!

Wear A Straw Bag Or Canvas

The easiest and most functional accessory is your bag. I love to wear a good straw bag. Recently, I discovered and purchased this canvas bag as my new Summer bag. The round/circular shape with the round wooden handle gives it that edgy and summery style.

Layer With A Denim Jacket

Sometimes there are cooler summer days and the cutest and chicest way to layer your white dress is with a denim jacket. Such an easy and effortless way to layer.

Wear Proper Undergarment

What you wear under your dress makes a difference. I guess you can say it is an accessory. While most people will not see, wearing the right one will make or break your outfit. The goal is to make sure no one can see your underwear or bra. I almost always wear a nude seamless underwear. It blends well with my skin tone and you don’t have to worry about it showing through your white dress.

As for bras, I’ll be honest I almost always never wear a bra during the Summer. To be frank, since my mastectomy (with reconstruction), a bra almost feels unnecessary since my foobs can retain their shape. So I love to wear these seamless breast petals. They’re the best. You will never have to worry about your bra or bra straps showing.

I love a good high-low dress. I wore this when it was a very hot day in Barcelona. It was perfect! I’ve actually worn this dress for Spring and Fall too. I quickly switched up by pairing it with ankle booties.

    Love that Madewell dress on you! I’m about to pull the trigger, but it is final sale and I haven’t seen it in person. Is it see through? Do you wear it without a slip? The website recommends a size 0 for me (120lb, 5’4″). Do you find that it runs small/big?

    • Hi Sara, I think it runs slightly large. I had to size down to size 2 and I’m normally a size 4. I wore nude-color underwear and didn’t have any issues with the dress being see-through.
