How To Make A Baggy Sweater Look Cute
How do you make a baggy sweater look cute? Or some like to call it a slouchy sweater. Do you know what a baggy sweater is? I know, it doesn’t sound appealing or cute. Nor does it sound like it is fashionable. However, I’ve been a fan of baggy sweaters for awhile now. Baggy sweaters are the ones that are considered chunky knit sweaters, oversized style sweaters, or the boxy style sweaters. There are several reasons why I love to wear oversized sweaters.
- They keep me very warm during the Winter. Chicago winters are brutal and I need all the heat!
- They’re surprisingly very versatile. Most people think you can only wear these big sweaters with jeans, but trust me I have created multiple outfits with them.
- Versatility means stylish. Yup you heard me, wearing baggy sweaters is stylish. It’s all about styling them properly.
How To Make A Baggy Sweater Look Cute
So I will be sharing tips on how to look cute in a baggy sweater. After all, it is sweater weather in the Fall and Winter! I decided to focus on wearing my favorite oversized sweater. I just love the color of mine and had so much fun creating all these outfits. It helped me get out of that winter style rut. I’m so over wearing winter clothes and getting creative with this mustard colored sweater got me excited to dress up again. But of course, I did sprinkle in other sweater too! Plus, I think wearing the same sweaters will hopefully help you see how easy it is to style it multiple ways. You’ll be surprised that big sweaters are super cute to wear!
Choose the Right Length
Baggy sweaters can be tricky because if you don’t pick the right length, you can look frumpy. The best lengths are the ones that are just past the hip but not any longer. Anything longer than that looks like an awkward sweater dress. Remember, you want to be able to have versatility. Another good length is a cropped length because they look great with high-waisted pants or skirts. So rule of thumb, consider your height!
Contrasting Fit
You want the bottom half to compliment the bagginess of the sweater. I usually like something more fitted or something that hugs the waist when it comes to pants or leggings or skirts. Again, it avoids looking frumpy. Either pair an oversized sweater with slim fitting bottoms like skinny jeans, faux leather leggings, or something high-waisted.
Contrasting Colors
Have your sweater contrast against whatever bottom you decide to go with. This is why I went with the mustard color because it can look vibrant against dark jeans or neutral with light jeans. Another favorite color is a cream colored sweater. They can pretty much go with anything! It’s all about choosing the right color palette to make a perfect outfit.
Layer
Don’t be hesitant to layer underneath your sweater. Go for a lighter layering piece to give extra warmth during those cold days. It will also add dimension to your look. It gives off that cool street style fashion. I’m all about layering with a striped tissue turtleneck.
Tuck It
I’m a fan of tucking in my tops. I think they pull the outfit together and in general are flattering. Chunky knit sweaters are, well, very chunky and can look so top heavy. So doing a front-tuck or tucking them in, gives a more tailored look to it.
Pointed-Toe Shoes
Pointed toe shoes are very elegant and chic. It easily dresses up your outfit. Go for pointed toe boots, pointed toe heels, or my go-to is pointed toe slingback flats.
