What I Read In April
April was a hectic month! It was filled with lots of packing, Carter’s first birthday party, closing on our home, lining up and getting estimates from different contractors for our new house, and temporarily living in the suburbs until we close in our new house.
All I want to do by the end of the night, is lay in my bed to read or watch mindless TV. Hence, why most of my blog posts is all about books I’ve read. But even this month, I was just slow. After reading 20 pages, I fall asleep haha.
Even though I’ve been a slow reader, I loved the books I read in April. Each book gave me a little bit of hope and happiness while I read them.

One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle
Katy’s mother, Carol, just passed away and it feels like her whole world just crumbled. Her mother was her best friend, her everything and now doesn’t know how to function life without her. To make matter worse, they had planned a mother-daughter trip of a lifetime to Positano, Italy. Her mother always described Positano as magical and the trip before she met Katy’s father. Now, Katy has to face this adventure alone. The moment she stepped foot in Positano, she felt her mother’s presence. Katy really gets to know Carol, not as her mother, but as a young woman. It’s not who she imagined her mother to be and realizes she doesn’t know much about her mother.
This is my second Rebecca Serle (the first one I read is In Five Years and I LOVED IT!) and I love it too! She really knows how to capture my heart in all her books. It has all the feels that In Five Years has but in Positano. And omg, this book makes me want to book a flight to Italy now. I’m starting to understand Rebecca’s writing style and basically she has a way to create time as an illusion yet it’s all very realistic. They’re all sad and happy at the same time. I know this sounds confusing but if you read her books, you’d get it. I’m adding this book as a top favorite!

The Roughest Draft by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka
Katrina Freeling and Nathan Van Huysen were the most popular co-authors. They were also each other’s best friends, up until their fallout three years ago right when they achieved their greatest success. They haven’t spoke since and refuse to be seen in public together. When they’re both facing crossroads with their personal and professional life, they are forced to unite and write another book together. Not only that, they have to live in the same house in a tiny town in Florida to write this book. The entire time they’ve been attempting to write this book while hating each other. But living together forced them to talk about what lead to their fallout and bring up memories they chose to forget.
I don’t know why, but I assumed this book would be mediocre. I picked to read this book because I wanted to read something that was not heavy, didn’t require me to think as much, and I thought the front cover was book really cute. To my surprise, I really enjoyed this book. It was so well written. There was a good level of suspense that kept me so intrigued the entire time. So rare in contemporary fiction. I had to find out why Katrina and Nathan had a big fallout and why so much hatred. Each chapter I get a little more about their past but it was just enough to keep me reading all the way to end.
So what do you think of these books? Do you think you’ll read them?

I loved the In 5 years book by Rebecca Serle too! Although my husband was scared when he saw how much I was crying reading it, haha! I am hoping I don’t cry quite as much with the One Italian Summer book. I’ve added it to my hold list at the library but so many people requested it before me, it feels like I’m not moving any further up the list to get it, haha! I hope to be able to pick it up soon 🙂
That pink dress is so cute on you too!
Hope you are having a good week!
I’m heading to the library today and adding these to my list! Both of these books sound like great summer reads!

Congratulations on closing on your home! That’s really so exciting but yes, it’s also very exhausting. So, hang in there! Btw, happy belated first birthday to Carter. I hope he had a great day on his special day. I don’t get to read as much either. Sometimes by choice because I get too distracted or just want something brain numbing so I can relate. But the most important thing is that we still try to as best as we can right? I hope your week is going well so far and happy Wednesday!

I’ve got to read One Italian Summer! It sounds like a book I would love. If I enjoy it, I might read In Five Years as well.
nice post
Cut to present, it is so easy to print stickers of one’s choice these days. There is no more waiting for them and no more trying of luck to get exactly what you want. Why wait when you can create them?
I haven’t read either of these books, but I’m going to add them to my list!
Wishing you a wonderful week, Rach! Hope all is well with you. 🙂
