End of Summer Skin Care Tips | SHOP THE OUTFIT: Ruffled Maxi Dress | Monogram Necklace
I can’t believe that we are already in September and summer is about to end. I do hope that the summer weather extends a bit longer. As we all know, Chicago’s weather can be a toss up and we can have summer in September or have a cold Fall in September.
Regardless, we should be prepared for the change of weather and temperature. I’m always about switching up your skincare routines in every season. As soon as the temperature starts dropping, the humidity changes too as the season transitions to Fall. This is why it’s important to switch up your skin care regiment with the change of season.
If you’re like me, you’ve been spending a lot of time outdoors during the Summer months. But I recently found out that some outdoor activities strip your skin of its natural oils and nutrients that protect the skin from environmental stressors and help keep its vibrance. So your usual summer skincare products may not give you as much protection during the transition weather. Therefore, preparing your skin for the Fall season can give it a head start and make your skin ready for the cold weather.
End Of Summer Skin Care Tips
I’m starting to switch up my usual summer skin care routine to prepare my skin for Fall. So I thought I’d share my end of Summer skincare tips.
Stay Hydrated
Always drink lots of water no matter what season it is, but especially during the colder months. People assume you only need a lot of water in the Summer because you’re thirsty from the heat. However, your skin gets dehydrated from the lack of humidity and moisture in the air. There are lots of benefits from drinking water such as reducing fine lines and wrinkles, flushing out toxins, skin elasticity, preventing acne, and adding moisture back to your skin. I’m always carrying around a water bottle. I used this water bottle when I was pregnant and I also love using S’well water bottles because it keeps my water cold all day. I’m not a fan of drinking warm water.
Use A Gentle Facial Cleanser
During the summer, we tend to wash our face more often because of sweat, oil, chlorine, etc, but that can strip away the skin’s natural oils and create dry skin. So in the Fall, it is important to start using a gentle facial cleanser. That way you can effectively remove dirt and grime while helping the skin maintain its softness, natural oils, and healthy glow without feeling dry and cracked. I love to use Maelove’s Refresher Cleanser or Happy 2nd Birthday’s Calming Creamy Cleanser. They’re so effective, gentle, and restore moisture.
Swapping To Richer Moisturizers and Body Lotions
Using a richer moisturizer for your face and body heals the skin from sun exposure, protects your skin from the upcoming dry weather, and prevents dry skin. Always make sure to moisturize daily because it encourages collagen production which results in less wrinkles and fine lines.
I love to use Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Face Cream for my face because it contains fatty acids that need to be replenished during colder months.
For my body, I’m a big fan of Necessaire’s Body Lotion and Body Serum. I usually like to mix both body lotion and body serum together and it works amazing on super dry skin. The Body Serum is amazing because it has Hyaluronic Acid to really hydrate and replenish your skin. I also really love their hand cream. It’s not greasy and really helps dry and crackly hands.
Add A Deep Hydrating Serum to Your Routine
I mentioned above why I use The Body Serum, but it is also important to include a deep hydrating serum for your face as well. Of course, you have to use a face serum with Hyaluronic Acid in it. I use the Hydrator B5 Gel serum. It’s a moisture booster infused with Hyaluronic Acid and it not only moisturizes your face but also gives you that glowy, dewy skin.
Use Lip Balm
Your lips will also get dry and chapped. So to prevent that, it’s so important to proactively apply lip balm on your lips. I’m a fan of using Follain’s lip balm. However, most of the time I want some subtle tint to my lips and therefore, I love to use Ilia’s Balmy Tint Hydrating Lip Balm or Burt Bee’s Tinted Lip Balm.
Wear Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen Products
No matter what your skin tone is, always protect your skin from the sun. Make sure you use sunscreen products that include broad spectrum (in the label). Broad spectrum guarantees it protects you from sun damage and from UVA and UVB rays. Both UV Rays can cause skin cancer.
My favorite face sunscreen to use is Supergoop! Unseen (it’s invisible and gives a soft, velvety feel to your skin) and Supergoop! Glowscreen (similar to the Unseen but gives a glowy, dewy finish). Both can be used as a makeup primer. Supergoop!’s body sunscreens are also just as amazing.
Exfoliate Your Skin
Removing dead skin cells is one of the best ways to reinvigorate your skin and remove any grime and impurities. It helps bring new skin cells to the surface so that your skin looks fresh. Exfoliating also helps your skin absorb the products better.
My go-to face exfoliator is the Maelove Deep Exfoliator and my go-to body exfoliator is Necessaire The Body Exfoliator.
Use Facial Mist
I use facial mists all the time. You can easily hydrate your skin throughout the day without touching your skin. By using a facial mist, your skin maintains its moisture barrier, is renewed, soothed, and balanced.
I use the Thayer’s Rose Petal Facial Mist all the time (basically everyday) and I shared it as one of my pregnancy product recommendations too. Since it also contains witch hazel it works as an antibacterial and skin barrier. It’s also an awesome makeup setting spray.
How do you prep your skin for the change of season?

You’re welcome!
These are great tips Rach! I do almost everything you mentioned except for switching to a rich moisturizer and using a facial mist. I need to look into this as it is very interesting that our skin gets dry as season change from hot to cold and perhaps why my skin still feels a bit scaly even after drinking a ton of water daily. I hope you and your family are doing well and happy Tuesday!
