Just got back from our trip to San Francisco, and man it was so much fun! I will definitely do a recap and travel guide in another post. SF is one of my favorite cities and I am so glad I was able to share and show it to my husband!
My Thoughts On Breast Cancer Awareness Month
As we got back from our trip, I realized that we are in the last week of October. As you all may already know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This month has been conflicting for me and so there were highs and lows as I see almost every store covered in pink ribbon. Even heading to the airport, I see flags with pink ribbons all the way down the hall in each concourse. I am amazed and touched how everyone wants to show support. Without a doubt, I think everyone acknowledges that it exists.
But that is the thing, it seems pretty clear that everyone knows breast cancer exists. So why are people campaigning for breast cancer awareness? I strongly believe that for this month (and any month), it is for the FIGHT against breast cancer. I recently learned that the number of deaths per year from breast cancer has not changed. And I think that says something about where we are in the fight against breast cancer.
My Own Fight
My fight with breast cancer is not yet over. Just because I now have my hair growing and look ‘normal’ to the outside world, doesn’t mean I’m cured. Unfortunately, there is no cure and there’s a 30% chance it can go metastatic. It is a fear that tends to follow me each and every day. Hopefully, in another post, I can go into more detail about what life is like now. But for the moment, I just want to share my thoughts on why we should support organizations that want to fight against breast cancer and basically end it.
What Is iGO Pink?
This is why I teamed up with iGO Pink. iGo Pink’s mission is to eliminate breast cancer. They bring together different organizations and health professionals to make their mission possible. So you bet I’m supporting an organization that wants to fight breast cancer and find a cure.
iGo Pink does more than just fight breast cancer, they are improving the fight by providing aid and resources for those who are diagnosed with breast cancer. They provide financial assistance, host beauty drives to make women feel beautiful again, and teach young women about early detection.
How You Can Fight Against Breast Cancer
As October comes to an end, please continue to fight against breast cancer with me. If you plan to donate to any breast cancer charity, please be sure that it is going towards something that can make an impact.

Definitely want to make sure we aren’t just raising awareness (I agree with you — I think we’re all pretty aware of breast cancer), but that we’re doing our part to actually fight against it and to finding a cure. Thanks for talking about iGO Pink.
Also, I’m happy you enjoyed San Francisco. I’m sure it was cold while you were here. It’s almost always cold in SF. Looking great in that suede moto jacket as well!

Thank you Merel!
Love this post Rach and so glad you shared. I think sometimes people do a quick symbolic gesture and think they’re helping (and have good intentions, of course), however wearing a pink ribbon doesn’t change things like you said…. real action does.
So glad you brought this to the forefront and are creating a dialogue. Hugs!

Thank you so much Alyson! I definitely agree that people mean good intentions! Thanks so much for understanding!
Such a lovely call to action you have for us, Rach! It’s great that breast cancer has so much awareness now, although the next step is ACTION! 🙂
