When I think Spring, I think it is trench coat season. Without a doubt a trench coat is a Spring wardrobe must-have. If you are not familiar with them, a trench coat is typically a Spring coat (but can also be worn in the Fall too), usually with a belted tie-waist and a button front closer. Sometimes, they are double breasted. Sometimes they’re waterproof so they can withstand the volatile Spring weather.
You can never go wrong with a classic trench coat because they’re effortlessly chic. As long as you have the right fit, you’ll look so high fashion in them. It’s definitely one of the reasons why I love them. They can enhance your overall look and they pair well with almost everything.
My coat is from Amazon the Drop collection. I’m very impressed with the quality, style, and fit considering this was an affordable option. My trench coat is under $100. If you want a thorough review of my coat, I wrote a review here. As an overview, I went down a size. I honestly think it fits just as well as a Club Monaco trench coat.

How To Style A Trench Coat
Here are styling tips and tricks on how to wear a trench coat.
Get The Right Fit
The fit of the trench coat is crucial especially if you decide to get a classic trench coat.
- Make sure the shoulders aren’t too broad.
- Hugs the waist a little, but not too much that it is fitted.
- The most flattering length is knee-length or maybe longer.
- It gets tricky if you get a shorter trench coat.
Tie The Belt In The Back
Tying the attached waist belt in the back is a cute way to wear a trench coat. It helps accentuate the waist and shows off your outfit. I typically wear it this way when I’m wearing a dress.
Make It A Statement
Let the trench coat be a statement outfit. Either create a monochromatic outfit with it or choose one with more vibrant colors and prints. Check out these 9 Chic Spring coats. This will definitely up the level of your Spring style.
Drape It Over The Shoulder
Another effortlessly chic way to wear a trench coat is just draping it over your shoulder. Ya know that classic blogger style where you’re not actually wearing the coat and it is just over your shoulder. It’s great to wear it this way during the day and as it gets cooler into the night, you can easily slip your arms through the sleeves. When I worked in an office, I also wore it this way too because I was always too cold but still wanted to show off my outfit haha.
Styling For Spring Season
As I mentioned before, trench coats are unanimously known to be worn in the Spring. I typically go for lighter neutral colors in the Spring and get something more water resistant. Since my clothes aren’t as bulky during the Spring, I definitely make sure the fit of the trench coat is perfect. A drapey trench coat is perfect for Spring.
Styling For Fall Season
Trench coats are great for in-between seasons and I love to wear them in the Fall as well. I typically like to get a trench coat that is a bit heavier and has room to wear a sweater underneath. During the Fall is when I like to wear a boxier fit trench coat. It is easy to layer with and overall fits the mood of the season.
