Love My Body
I am so excited to share with you all my favorite part of my body. It is something I am so proud of and I am not ashamed to show it off! I know it is different for everyone, so if you have a favorite body part, share it below in the comments. I’d love to hear it! Every part of our body tells a story about ourselves. And after going through all the health issues and changes with my body, I’ve learned to embrace what my body is capable of doing and any mark it has left is a reminder that I have overcome a lot.
So can you guess what my favorite part of my body is? I’ve been wanting to share it for awhile but to be honest it had to wait until summertime so I can appropriately showcase it. Because it is not like I can wear a swimsuit when it is cold out, ohh Chicago weather.
My Favorite Part of My Body
Alright let’s have the drumroll (insert drumroll music)….. my favorite part of my body is my …. surgery scars! Did you expect me to say that? Every time I look at all my surgery scars, it reminds me of my strength. Like, damn girl you handled some of the toughest surgeries. I feel so badass whenever I look at my surgery scars. You know how people talk about their battle wounds and brag about it, that’s exactly how I think about it when it comes to my scars.
The one scar that is the most visible to people is my port scar. I have this odd attachment to my port. I’ll be honest, I was a little sad when I had to remove my port (in the cancer world we like to call it de-ported haha!). Every time I go into treatment now, I miss my port. I hate being poked in the arm and that port made it easier and painless.
I guess I could have just worn a low-cut top to showcase my port scar, but what’s the fun in that?! In a world where we need to learn to embrace our bodies a little bit more, I figured a swimsuit is the most appropriate. Considering how much my body has changed, I hope this gives encouragement that we can all love our bodies (yes, even in a swimsuit) no matter where we are in life.
Can You See?
Also, I didn’t realize it until after these photos were taken, but it looks like my port scar is not as obvious as I thought due to the lighting. The lighting was perfect for photos (it made my skin look flawless, heyyyyy), but it somehow brightened up the scar too. Plus, I think with time they do fade a bit. Got to thank my surgeon for being amazing on closing me up haha. In real life it’s more obvious. So if you are looking at these photos and are like uhh Rach where’s the scar, this is why!
If you’re wondering where it is located, it is on my left side right above my left breast (so look at the right in the photos). You’ll see a slightly dark line that’s about 4 inches long. And the other one is a 1-inch scar by my left collarbone (so your right). Right where it meets my necklace. It looks like a dark spot.
The Non-visible Ones
My other scars are the ones from my major surgeries such as my double (bilateral) mastectomy. Those scars definitely have proven my strength. I can vividly remember how awful I felt the first month, especially the first week! I couldn’t walk, I was bed ridden, in so much pain, and my husband literally had to do everything for me (yup going to the bathroom too – god bless him for being so wonderful).
Sorry, I’m not showing those scars. I don’t feel comfortable exposing my breast to the world. I definitely like to try to keep my blog rated PG as much as possible. But I also think you all get the point by now that I love my surgery scars. Every time I look at them, I feel like a badass. Like I can conquer anything!
The Swimsuit
Remember when I talked about how I stumbled upon cute swimsuits on Amazon?! As promised, I purchased this one-piece from Amazon and I absolutely love it. I decided to go with this one because lately I’ve been into one-pieces, I love the scallop detailing, and I can show off my port-scar. Plus, for $26 it is so worth the try! I’m actually impressed with the quality. As for sizing, I sized up and went with a medium. My issue with swimsuits are the bottoms. Let’s just say my butt is very bubbly? Haha. And I’m not a fan of butt cheeks being exposed. However, if it is wasn’t for my butt, I think a size small would have worked!
So what about you? What is your favorite part of your body?

Very beautiful swimsuit! I really like it! Also I adore your post, because I completely agree with you that scars can remind us how we are strong and what we survive. You are so beautiful and strong woman! I wish you great week!

Right?! So glad you agree too and thank you so much!
That’s a cute swimsuit! Love the head wrap and the sunnies too! I need to try to wear a head wrap next time I go to the beach. I have bangs and half the time they are either on my face flat from all the sweat or up in the air from the wind!! Lol I love your post and how you embrace your scars and body. You are right about being proud of them and this is a great reminder for all of us to embrace our bodies whether we are in love with them or not. I know that there are things I don’t like about my body like my eyes because they are small or my legs because they overpower everything about me but at the end of the day, I appreciate them because my eyes help me see whether they are big or small and my legs because it helps me walk, run, sit, etc. Things that I shouldn’t take for granted.
Maureen | http://www.littlemisscasual.com
You totally should wear a wrap. It’s so fun haha! Yes!! You totally nailed dit Maureen and I’m so glad you are able to relate it to you. We can be so hard on ourselves and we should remind ourselves that our body is what got us to where we are.
Awesome post,great pics ❤
Thanks!
This post actually brought a tear to my eye, because I think you’re such a badass as well, and it’s incredibly inspiring to read how you think of yourself that way! It’s so rare for *any* woman to love her body and respect her uniqueness, but especially so for those who have dealt with illness, disease, surgeries, etc. You are such a bright spot in this world, girlfriend! Thanks for always motivating me!
Omg Stephanie you are the sweetest! You are just as incredible! I hope you also find the beauty with your body and admire the strength it is given you. Thanks girl!
I love my surgery scars as well, it’s an amazing journey to give birth to a lovely creature.

So glad you embraced your scars too!
I think this is fantastic that you recognize the scars as a sign of strength as this is what it is! And not something to be ashamed of. Every time I see someone with scars or any injuries I do wonder what those people have been through and I’m so curious of their stories. Thank you for sharing yours. xx

Love this post and you should definitely be proud of those scars and taking control of your own destiny- thank you for sharing your story!
Thank you so much Kristina!
What a beautiful, strong post Rach. Funny about your port scar because I also have a small one on my neck that now basically looks like a nude freckle, lol. It’s funny how time can also heal the scars we can see, in addition to the scars we cannot. XOXOOX

Thank you so much for your kind words!
Girl you are a BADASS and never forget that! I was in a near fatal car accident when I was 16 and still have visible scars on my forehead from going through the windshield. For a long time I was insecure about them (being young will do that to ya!), but now I’m like if I can go through that I can face anything that comes my way!
xo, Sara
Sara you are also a badass! I’m so sorry you had to go through. And I agree that being young will do that too but I’m glad that you now realize it symbolizes as your strength.
What a positive post!
Thank you Tillie!
It is actually something that won’t be noticed at first glimpse. Battle scars represents fights that you have taken and a memory that you should be proud of. You still look beautiful tho.
