Goals For 2018
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful start to the new year. For New Year’s Eve, Tre and I stayed in, relaxed, and wore our jammies all day. It was the best not having any big plans. When it got closer to midnight, my parents stopped by and then they spent the night and we had a big breakfast the next day. What did you guys do for New Year’s Eve?
Now that it is 2018, did you set any goals? Last year, I didn’t set any goals. I just wanted to see how the year went for me. Now, I am ready. So ready to take charge of myself and really focus on rehabbing from cancer. I don’t know if it was having a restful NYE or what, but when I woke up yesterday, I was excited to create my goals for 2018 and get started. So without further ado here are my goals for 2018.
My Goals for 2018
Fitness
This year, I really want to focus on my fitness. Fitness was always a big part of my life before cancer and I genuinely enjoyed it. Chemo and all the other treatments, took a toll on my body and it made it difficult to workout as often. Being on hormonal therapy, weight gain is one of the side effects I am experiencing. Of course, gaining weight can be risky since I am PR and ER positive (HER positive too). In the past few weeks, I started to really enjoy working out and I actually have the energy too. On my InstaStory, I shared that I started a workout journal. Here is where I track what I did and any additional notes I wanted to add. That way, I can look back and see what I have accomplished and celebrate it, versus dwell and think that I ‘didn’t do much’. I also think it is a great way to exercise my brain more (chemo brain ah!), and know what to share to my doctors in case they need to know something about my lifestyle. Workouts I’ve been enjoying lately are Barre, Boxing, Hot Yoga, and BBG.
Self-Care
Towards the end of last year, I started to notice the positive effects of self-care. I now understand why it is a priority in most people’s lives and I want to continue that this year. I want to make me a priority and dedicate time for me. One of my favorites is taking a long hot bath with detox soaking salt.
Skincare
Taking care of my skin is so important to me. Having a great skin day helps build my confidence so much. 2017 was the year of trying out what’s best for my skin. I implemented the 10 step Korean Skincare routine and I love it! I am also into finding skincare lines that are not toxic. My favorite is Beautycounter. Their entire skincare line is dedicated to safe ingredients, gentle on skin, and effective. I love using the Balancing Face Oil!
Organize
I like to think I’m a fairly organized person but here & there some parts of our house got a little bit out of control, like our closet (eek!). So I’d like to revisit some of my stuff to see if I need to purge or keep them and find creative ways to organize and put them away nicely. Like using these vintage-inspired jewelry boxes. It is a great way to organize your jewelry and add it as a decor element. These boxes are currently on my nightstand table and I love it!
I think trying to do one-time organization is overwhelming so I decided to do it in sections. Yesterday evening, I organized one part of the closet. It felt good and it made a big difference. It is like I can breathe. And it didn’t wear me out. SO ready to organize another part of the closet or our house!
Write Down a Good Thought
A lot of ideas are constantly flowing through my head, and I always tell myself “oh yea I will for sure remember this”. And guess what? I don’t. It can be ideas about anything, our home, the blog, dinner, etc. I’m not the kind of person that wrote in diaries/journals, but writing down a good idea or thought is definitely worth the time! Since I have an obsession with cute stationaries, I should probably put some of my cute notebooks to good use!
No Pressure on Blogging
You are probably like, what does this mean? I gave myself the added stress to blog and post by a certain day and time. When I don’t, I feel like I have failed. When I feel like I failed, the anxiety is high. I really should be more relaxed about posting because I started this blog for fun. I really appreciate you all reading my blog (seriously, I am sooooooooo grateful!!).
Share More of What I Love
I started this blog to share what I love. After all, I did name it RD’s Obsessions! Don’t get me wrong, fashion will always be my bread & butter. I love sharing outfits! Something about putting on a good outfit gives me that extra boost of confidence. But I want to share more and hopefully others can get something out of it too. There are so many things I am into and feel passionate about, even something as little as how to heal cracked heels (so silly, but I honestly think I found the BEST solution), to my favorite sheet mask to favorite places in Chicago, and my cancer journey. I honestly think I want to bring more variety to this blog. I hope you all will enjoy it too!
Take a Photo of Tre and I Each Month
One thing I noticed Tre and I barely do is take photos of each other. It is kind of funny because we are always taking photos! It just so happened we are both not in the same photo. Tre is always taking photos and I use Tre as my test subject when I want to learn more about photography. We build a lot of great memories together and I want to be able to document that.
So those are my goals for 2018 and I am so excited about them! I feel really good! They are things that I have already started and/or want to continue from last year. I’ve noticed other people’s goals are about changing themselves and I wanted my goals to focus on embracing myself.
Thoughts on Goals for 2018
There is something I want to share as an afterthought when creating a list of goals for 2018 (if you plan on making one). Goals are meant to make you feel good about yourself. So don’t feel like you should pressure yourself to make your goals happen. There are things that will happen during the year that will throw you off course and that is totally okay. We can’t control those things. Goals should never be stressful. They should naturally be part of your lives. We should strive to reach for them and celebrate the steps we take to achieve it.
I know I have quite a bit of goals but I don’t expect to check them all off by end of year. So be easy on yourself and have fun! Life is precious and we should enjoy it. Cheers to a prosperous and healthy 2018!

I want to focus on my fitness too. I get so lazy when it comes to that. Happy new year.

These goals seem pretty doable! Only if you believe in yourself. Go girl! I couldn’t agree more with the “pressure of blogging”. Sometimes it takes a toll on us bloggers whenever we don’t get to meet our deadlines (which was imposed to us/by us anyways) – which should not be the whole point of blogging. It’s almost expressing ourselves and putting ourselves out there. And doing so, when we’re on the mood and feeling like it. No pressure. Just pure writings. Happy New Year! <3
Exactly! Thank you so much Gail for understanding!
These goals are so great and a lot are similar to mine this year! Love this outfit too! Those jeans are so cute! Happy New Year!

Thank you! So glad you are doing that too with blogging! I think overall we need to give ourselves a break.
What a lovely read, and I really enjoy posts like this dear. Really inspiring. I love what you said about writing down good thought. This will truly put things into perspective. Sometimes, we work so hard to get what we want, when many times, all the things we need are already around us. It’s time to appreciate those more important things in life. Even those smaller things.
