15 Things To Do At Home
With everything going on (COVID19), it is really important to follow social distancing and stay at home as much as possible. Chicago has a Stay At Home Order which started last Saturday (my birthday) and it is evident that we need to find ways to entertain ourselves at home. So I’ll be sharing a list of things to do from home.
Before I share a list of things to do at home, I want to share some positive news! For the past couple of weeks, I was actually really sick. I immediately notified my doctors since that is standard protocol for cancer patients to notify doctors about any ailments (at least it is standard for my hospital), and I continued to monitor my symptoms. Of course, I wasn’t getting any better. I was so fatigued, my coughs were awful, and I experienced shortness of breath. After a few days, my doctor told me I need to get tested for COVID19 (coronavirus). My heart sank when I heard the word because I am a high risk patient. Luckily, on my birthday I was told I tested negative!! PHEW! So now I’m just continuing to monitor my symptoms and truly hoping this goes away.
15 Things To Do At Home
Ok let’s get back to sharing what to do at home. Maybe some of you are going stir crazy since you never had to be home this much. So hopefully this list helps you out! Before we begin, I want to say let’s use this time to really embrace slowing down. We live in a very fast-paced world and we have no control over that. Now is the opportunity to really be present. Because I believe this pandemic will pass and before we know it, we are back into our fast-paced world.
For those who still have to work, I shared my work from home tips on being productive!
FaceTime With The Elders
Since the elderly are vulnerable to this virus, they’re most likely at home, and may not be able to spend time with family. They can’t interact with many people and they get lonely. Tre and I FaceTimed his grandma and it makes me happy to see she’s doing well and to let her know that there is still a way we can see each other and socialize without putting her at risk. Or how about FaceTime any family member or friends? Have a virtual happy hour which is what some of my friends are doing!
Create An Indoor Picnic
I am a big fan of creating an elaborate indoor picnic. It is so fun! It’s what we did for my birthday since we couldn’t go anywhere. I wrote a post about how to create a memorable indoor picnic. When I was little, we did this a lot and it was so much fun!
Play Games With Family Members
Of course, limit the people to 10. But think about it, when was the last time you’ve played games with your family? I know we always talk about playing board games and then somehow never get a chance to do it. Not into board games, how about play trivia or ask TableTopics questions? Recently my family loved playing the Blockbuster game, and I know all the little kids in my family love hide and seek.
Read A Book
This is the perfect time to read a book. I know I’ve seen a lot of people’s new year’s resolution is to read more. So no excuses. Check out the Books section for book recommendations. I give reviews on every book I read. I just finished Conviction by Denise Mia and it is a really good thriller book. My summer reading and holiday reading has good options too!
Build A Fort
Kids love forts and adults love forts. Just pile on all the pillows and blankets and watch some movies. Disney+ has been really enjoyable at the moment. I just watched Frozen 2.
Dance Party
Or more like Tik Tok Dance videos haha. Come on now, we all love to dance. Plus, no one is there to judge. I’m guilty of starting a Tik Tok account. Slightly embarrassing, but it helped pass the time and I had fun!
Have A Spa Day
Go all out and pamper yourself. Go all out with your skincare from using a face steamer, exfoliating, face mask, and the whole nine yards. Might as well use a hair mask too! I never do a hair mask because I feel like I don’t have the time. Then end it with a nice bubble bath. Or take bubble baths every night just because you can.
Cook A Gourmet Meal
Go all out on a meal and make it gourmet. Maybe have a few courses? They usually take up some time but if you can’t go out to eat, might as well make dining in very special. Or go creative and make it a cooking show! I’ve seen several people on Instagram create a cooking show when they cook and it looked fun!
Bake Bread
This sounds silly, but baking bread takes patience and time. And the only time to do it is when you know you’ll be at home. I’ve been eyeing this Scallion Pancake Challah recipe and want to make it soon!
Create Photo Books
I love creating photo books of all the places we traveled to. It is a great way to showcase and remember these places. My go-to is Artifact Uprising. The quality of their books is amazing. I use the Everyday Photo Books. They make an incredible coffee table book or a very pretty addition to a bookshelf.
Do An Online Workshop
If you are a LinkedIn Premium member, you have to check out the LinkedIn Learning section. There are so many online courses you can take to advance your career or learn something new. This is where I learned to be really good at Excel and SQL. Now I’m taking courses on Google Analytics and SEO. I also recommend General Assembly.
Clean Your Make-Up Brushes
I’ll admit I don’t clean my make-up brushes often. The main reason is it takes awhile for them to dry. Since I’m home and don’t wear make-up, I don’t need to worry about it. I love using the brush cleaning mat. It gets in all the nooks and crannies of the brush. I use Beautycounter’s Kid’s Body Wash as the soap because it is gentle, cleans it real well, and has safe ingredients.
Do At-Home Workouts
It is so important to still be moving and keep exercising. There are so many free workouts you can do at-home. My favorite YouTube workouts are from PopSugar Fitness. I also use the app FitOn. On Instagram, I love to follow @cindyyufitness and @alexia_clark.
Organize Your Closet
This is self-explanatory. My favorite purchase is the Shoes Space Saver. Basically it stacks my pair of shoes on top of each other and I was able to double my shelf space! Below are other favorite organizational items!
Work On House Projects
Have any house projects that you’ve been setting aside? Maybe need to paint a wall or do some re-decorating? I know Tre & I have been wanting to replace some light fixtures, paint some walls, and change our ceiling fans.
So this may be an additional tip, but also support your local business as much as you can. They also really need our help and I truly believe they are the foundation of the neighborhood. Tre and I will try to order take out at our favorite restaurants as much as possible and maybe do some online shopping. I really really hope they make it through this.
Stay safe everyone!

So far I’ve done the three last ones, I’m reading quite a bit more and trying to call and facetime my friends and relatives. I would love to try an indoor picnic, but I think my parents would think I’m crazy 😉

I bet your kids will loved it! I had so many happy memories of an indoor picnic as a kid!
That was definitely a scare but I am so glad your test came back negative. I do hope you are feeling much better and no more fatigue or coughing. These are great tips and I am incorporating baking into our weeks a lot more. My son loves it enough to keep his energy at bay. We also managed to clean out his closet so I am feeling a bit accomplished! I would love to read more books unfortunately our library is closed so haven’t done that as much as I would like. I hope your weekend is off to a great start and happy belated birthday!

I’m definitely glad it came back negative. Unfortunate the coughing has not gone away yet. Hopefully soon! Cleaning out a closet is always a big accomplishment! Our library has been closed too and I’ve been purchasing most of mine through Amazon.

I agree!
Such a great list!!! Definitely have been reading more and I’ve excited about it. Also excited about home projects and spicing up my workouts!
