6 Ways To Style A High Waisted Midi Skirt For The Summer

How was your Memorial Day Weekend? I usually associate MDW as the start of the summer season. My weekend was full of relaxing and enjoying the beautiful weather. It also got me thinking about getting started on my summer reading. So if you have any book recommendations, please do share in the comments below!

A couple weeks ago, I did a style challenge in my Instagram Story and shared 6 different ways to style a high waisted midi skirt for the summer. As I mentioned before, I love focusing on one piece and styling it multiple ways. I love getting creative and showcasing how versatile pieces from your closet can be!

This idea came about when my friend Jill asked me if I wanted to do a style challenge. Basically sharing how a skirt is an alternative to wearing shorts. I was totally up for the challenge because I already prefer wearing midi skirts over shorts. We all could select any skirt of our choice. Obviously I have a thing for midi length skirts so I went with this high waisted midi skirt.

About My High Waisted Midi Skirt

Before we begin, I received several questions about this skirt. The fit is true to size. Therefore, I got the US Size 4/UK 8. It falls right above the ankle, and I’m 5’4″.

I love the fabric because it is very lightweight so it is made for the summer. It is similar to linen but with more structure. However, it also has movement (aka it has flow). I hope this makes sense! The slit will not reveal anything. It is carefully structured. It shows just enough leg, and it is cut specifically so that all you see is leg. If you ever had a cheaply made skirt or dress with a slit, you know it has the potential to reveal more than the legs. Ugh, I hate that.

6 Ways To Style A High Waisted Midi Skirt

When I was putting these skirt outfits together, I tried to think of several summer outfits for different types of occasions. Therefore, I thought of ideas from casual day to workwear appropriate. Also, if an A-line skirt is not your style, you can substitute it with pleated skirts.

Summer Casual Day

This outfit is great for any casual summer day. Either you are running errands, going to the park, etc. I wore the buttons in the center because I felt that it gave the skirt a more casual feel to it. And I just took a basic white muscle tank and tied a knot. It would also look great with an oversized graphic tee to give it a more relaxed vibe. On chilly days, it looks perfect with a denim jacket.

Beach/Pool Day

I used the skirt as a swimsuit cover-up. I’m wearing a one-piece swimsuit (only $30) with a cutout in the center. This look is great if you are going to the beach or pool!

Date Night / Wedding Guest Outfit

This outfit is more dressed up. I wanted to create a summer date night look. It also turns out that this same outfit would be great to wear at a summer wedding.

Workwear

Add a blazer and this skirt is workwear appropriate. It’s great for those hot summer days yet is too cold in the office. Due to the high-waisted style, I paired the skirt with a cropped top. This is the same cropped top from my chic Amazon tops.

Trendy Casual Day

I couldn’t resist creating another summer casual outfit. A striped tee is a must! Lately, I’ve been into belt bags. They’re so much chicer than the 90’s fanny pack. Plus, this belt bag is the perfect size – it can easily fit your phone, small wallet, keys, and lip gloss.

Baby Shower/First Communion/Graduation

I created this midi skirt outfit after the style challenge, but definitely want to share it because it is another great way to style this skirt. I wore this to my cousin’s son’s 1st communion. You can also wear this outfit to a graduation party or baby shower or any summer occasion.
