What Is Uniqlo Supima® Cotton?
Do you know what’s the deal with Uniqlo Supima® Cotton t-shirts? The title is a dead giveaway. Basically, Uniqlo is working towards being sustainable and their collection of Supima® cotton shirts are sustainable. They are made with American ground organic cotton. This type of cotton has strength, softness and retention of color. You can learn more about this cotton here.
I’ve been a long time fan of Uniqlo. I’ve worn several of their items on the blog. They’re my go-to for classic, basic pieces and the quality always impresses me considering how affordable their stuff is! It’s also Tre’s favorite brand. He pretty much shops there all the time now. Plus, they have the cutest Disney shirts. I almost always wear their shirts to Disney World haha.
When you have good quality basic pieces, you can pretty much transform your outfits easily. Anything can look chic. These sustainable t-shirts are only $10. Can you believe that?!
Uniqlo understands the importance of being sustainable and they want their efforts to extend beyond their clothes. Their efforts are broken down into 4 pillars: Production, Environment, Community, People. They ensure that their factory workers operate in a safe workplace, utilize tools that minimize environmental footprint, create programs for an ethical work culture, and educate the community.
Events About Sustainability
Recently, Uniqlo did a weekend event in Chicago dedicated to sustainability. They shared realistic lifestyle changes to implement sustainable habits in everyday life. Each day, the event has a different theme and you guessed it, it’s all about being sustainable and it goes beyond fashion. I went to one of them and it was incredible. The event I went to was about maximizing a minimal wardrobe. I’m kind of glad I already do this-ish. Like my post about 6 ways to style a cropped pants and high waisted skirt.
I know I don’t constantly buy clothes as much as other fashion bloggers (hence why I’m constantly linking similar items. I like to wear what I buy even if it is not currently in stock or old), but I know I can do better. One of the bloggers I love to follow is Jess Ann Kirby and I really admire her for working towards being more sustainable. She’s one of the bloggers I look up to and it’s amazing that she is willing to make that sacrifice.
Uniqlo also had events about avoiding food waste and shared inspired recipes straight from what you have in the kitchen. It’s all about rescued ingredients! This event was hosted by James Beard Awarding-winning chef Abe Cotton (of Fat Rice).
They also had an event about creating a DIY succulent gardening project. They focus on reusing household containers to add some green to your space.
Uniqlo Supima® Cotton Shirts
So what I’m wearing is the Supima® cotton t-shirt in crew neck style. Aside from it being sustainable fashion, as I mentioned earlier, I love the quality. The tee is so soft and it just fits so nicely. The fit is true to size and comes in multiple colors. I am wearing it in the color Pink. The classic t-shirt also comes in v-neck style if that is your preference. There are several other types of Supima® cotton clothing. I shared the women’s styles below. They definitely have them in men clothes too.
Other Sustainable Clothes
If you didn’t know this, my jeans are also sustainable. My jeans are from Everlane, which you probably can tell is one of my go-to brands. So if you are interested in other sustainable brands, Everlane is another great option.
I love my white denim and the last time you saw them was probably in the Winter. But I’ve definitely worn them more frequently. I love that they’re not see-through at all and the fit is perfect. I’m wearing the ankle-length one. For reference, I’m 5’4″ and I’m wearing my usual size (size 27).
They also have the world’s most comfortable jeans! So much stretch but doesn’t lose structure!
So what do you think? Have you been wearing more sustainable brands? Do you have a favorite? If you do, please share in the comments!
