What I Read In September – American Royals & The Hating Game
Yay, what I read in September is more than last month! It’s one more book, but still. I think up until the end of year, the days are just going to get busier and busier and reading a book will feel more and more like a luxury haha. But we’ll see!
This month, I read The Hating Game and the highly anticipated American Royals! American Royals came out the first week of September. I initially heard of this from one of my favorite podcasts, Bad On Paper. Since there has been a lot of buzz on this book, I got a few DMs asking for my thoughts before they purchased it. Scroll down and I give my review!
What I Read In September 2019
The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
This book is basically a Rom Com. Another book recommendation from you all! If you are into it, then you’ll enjoy the story line. A lot of people have commented on how much they enjoyed reading this book, and I was in the book for something light hearted. Plus I was intrigued by the storyline. It is about two co-workers who can’t stand each other. They are constantly competing with each other and finding ways to make the other person look back. Then there was an open position in their company and both of them are in the lead for this promotion.
To me, the first quarter of the book felt slow. At first it was funny reading about their quirks and then it felt like it was dragging a bit. Like ok, I get it they can’t stand each other. Then after getting through the first quarter of pages, it got really interesting. I got a much deeper understanding about the two main characters and their feelings and motives. And it got me to appreciate the beginning pages of the book (the parts that I felt like were dragging). It all tied together and made sense. The book is sweet and funny. Not my most favorite, but it was fun. Now I want a movie out of this book haha. I always love watching a good Rom Com movie.
American Royals by Katharine McGee
American Royals changes your perspective on the American government if George Washington was crowned king versus elected president. This book takes you to the current era but America is ruled by a Monarchy. These American royalties are descendants and heirs to George Washington. The book primarily focuses on the two princesses and the prince’s lives. One of the princesses will be the first ever Queen to rule America. Before that, only a king was allowed to rule the government and it is always passed down to the first-born son. There’s a lot of pressure on this princess to be perfect.
I LOVED this book. First of all, I loved that it switches up American history. It never crossed my mind that America could have been a monarchy government. So the play on history was really creative! Even if you are not into books about royalty, I think you will still enjoy it. There’s scandals and love stories. When I was done reading the book, I wanted more. I felt like there was so much that I need to know what happens. The last quarter of the book, so much was happening that at the end I had to know what the future looked like. Fortunately, Katharine McGee announced that she is currently writing the sequel and I can’t wait for it to come out!
So now I’m on a royalty kick. I want to read any book about royalty haha. I just started reading The Royal Treatment. Have you read this book? What have you read that you loved in September?
