What is A Canadian Tuxedo?

Have you heard of the Canadian tuxedo? Pretty much it is a denim on denim outfit. And I will admit, just hearing denim on denim doesn’t sound great at all. Like how can that possibly look chic?! I mean even Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake attempted to do it, and it looked A W F U L! Do you remember when they did that? I can’t believe that was 17 years ago?! Side note, my cousin told me she was talking to a bunch of high schoolers and many of them don’t know who Britney Spears is! How weird is that?!?!?!

Now that you get the idea of what a Canadian Tuxedo is, let me tell you why I am a fan. It’s basically the same concept as any monochromatic outfit. Wearing an all denim outfit sounds scary because denim fabric is very strong. It stands out on its own. Trust me though, there is a way to make it look chic and add your personality to it.

4 Easy Ways To Look Chic In A Canadian Tuxedo

Mix The Denim Washes

I recommend wearing two different denim washes/textures. For my top, I went with a chambray shirt. Not only is this lighter than my jeans, but the lightweight texture of the chambray creates more contrast. My skinny jeans have a slightly darker color with a vintage wash to it.

Mix The Fit

This means how your top fits should be a different fit from your bottoms. For instance, my chambray shirt is a loose, boxier fit, and my jeans are more fitted. This creates more body to the outfit and again creates a contrast. Or If you want both the bottom and top to be the same type of fit (i.e. both loose), accentuate your waist by tucking in your shirt, adding a belt, or do a tie-knot to your shirt.

Add Accessories

Definitely add accessories to your denim on denim outfit! For me, I wanted to accessorize with my silk scarf, I used this scarf as a neck scarf. I then paired it with my go-to circle crossbody and sunglasses. To top it off, I wore a semi-red lipstick! Yes, I like to call a bold lipstick an accessory. They really do transform your look. I’m wearing the ‘Poppy’ color. That way the attention is not just on my body, but there is a reason to look at the entire outfit!

Add A Pop Of Color/Print

Adding a pop of something again creates contrast. It helps break up the boldness of wearing denim on denim. Plus, it gives your Canadian Tuxedo more personality! So add whatever makes that outfit more you! For me, I wanted to take advantage of the leopard print trend. These leopard print kitty heels were the perfect touch to this outfit.
